Planning on buying the Beta... Please read what I have to say

By tactician93612, in General Discussion

Fellow gamers,

I love and support the games with which FFG has produced. In fact, I feel their customer support

is top of the crop of Corn!

But

I wanted to get involved with the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion Beta... So, I ordered the book!

While waiting for the USPS (thank you!) mail delivery, I decided to look into the product. I always

frequent the forums and pay particular attention to what the fellow Beta testers have to say.

Next, I further my desire to want more information, so I go to youtube.com & check to see if there

are any listed videos of the "unboxing" or "views of others".

I came across a video which really hit the mark all the way for this Beta issue.

To cut through the waste of time... here is the email I sent to FFG, respectively.

(1). Order arrived on Saturday, October 12, 2013.

(2). After opening the parcel and removing the order, I only found the book itself.

(3). Missing> Character sheet(s). With the viewing of a fellow player's YouTube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uO78aw41EE ... He shows the character sheets.

(4). Please send those to me... You guys are so awesome!!! Much thanks in advance!

Here's is their reply, and again, respectively...

Dear Ronnie,

Thanks for your message. However, those character sheets are not supposed to be with the Beta if you just buy it from us. Those character sheets were part of kits which we sent to retailers, so the person whose video you watched must have ordered one of these from a retail store. At this time we are not sending out those sheets or including them with the Beta books, but you are welcome to contact your local retailer about getting them. We apologize for any confusion.

So, I feel that FFG should make a change on their catalogue for this order and future orders. They should be

clear and avoid any confusion to their product line in the future. There by offer no excuse and all parties (FFG and their customers), will remain clear as to what they are to expect to receive.

May my surprise be not a lesson to me, but to you too!

With full respect to FFG and Hobby Marketing Staff,

Sincerely,

Ronnie Belcher

May The Force Be With You, Always!

I feel like there was never any confusion, that FFG is responsible for, I mean you made an assumption based on a commentator who did not clearly say where he had gotten the sheets.

There's some responsibility on the part of customers too in this, I know its a messed up stance I take, but I do. We as consumers and customers also have responsibilities in my mind, we have duties in addition to rights... this from a citizen of the last commie country in Europe (well, not commie, but semi-pseudo-socialism (and now we got "far"-right nitwits who-cannot-think-at-all in government, not "cannot do anything quickly lefties"... no not communism, most people don't care about the difference, and don't understand it either, that's stupidity and McCarthy-propagande for ya. History becomes filled with lies by people who do not know any better, and who are so afraid they cannot think straight... you would think the spread of education would actually educate people... alas, not so...)

Considering that the FFG catalogue does not in any way imply the addition of pre-gens, there is no reason whatsoever to expect to get some. If you look in the Minitature Market thread you will notice that most people got surprised over the fact that they received pre-gens, and keep in mind that MM is obviously not FFG. MM did this on their own accord, with what was supplied to them - there is, I assume, a retail kit which contains some pre-gens, which MM handed out for pre-orders (and possibly everyone else).

Now, I know its frustrating, but it is simply not FFG's responsibility to explicate what their product does not include, whatever our expectations might be, based on youtube reviews and whatnot.

Yeah, the product was never intended to give the pre-gens to customers. They were for retailer use only to run demos of AoR to generate interest and sales. You were just mislead by a Youtube video, when FFG never ever said anything about giving away Character sheets to customers.

I got them, only because my local shop got really annoyed about the included letter about running demos with the help of 'alpha gamers' and other failed terms used by some poor sap in marketing.

My FLGS included the sheets in the bag with the book. They bagged the books, BTW, in large comic bags, held closed with clear package tape. No demos scheduled.

"Alpha gamers"! That's rich. I'm picturing some gamer guy running around the store putting the other gamers in headlocks.

I'll be honest, other than the cool pictures on them (seriously, I love the Duros Commando art)... I probably wouldn't use the pregens anyway. A cursory glance at the Duros Commando shows that it doesn't even fit the generation rules.

And as already said, they weren't actually meant for use as part of the sale of the main book.

I didn't expect the pre-gens either, but Leisure Games sent them out with pre-orders.

I was surprised to see mine as I had heard no word of any being released with this beta nor did the previous beta include any.

I share the sentiments of Emperor Norton, kinda neat but I have no use for them.

What I really wanted was more than one blank sheets. I didn't have access to a scanner before using it and now I'll just have to use EotE's and wait for a PDF version...

In no way am I upset with FFG! And in honest, I'm not on a rant either. I was merely stating that, to be clear,

if you plan on buying the Beta book direct from FFG. Expect just the book itself and no pre-gen character sheets.

That's all. Just a head's up!

I meant no disrespect what so ever! My sincere apologies if my OP was taken as such!

Sincerely,

Me :)

Yeah getting those pre-gens from Miniature Market was a definite surprise... its not even listed as something you get on their product description (I believe) and I certainly didn't know it was coming.

After all this, I had the opportunity to get the character sheets. Yet, acknowledging that the pre-gens didn't match up to the character generation within the Beta book, I declined them.

All for the better, I suppose.

I would like to see a copy of it in word or as a backless version.
