Tamalir upgrades

By snacknuts, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

The new faq has made it clear that the heroes cannot visit or restock in a town (tamalir) when they end/flee from a dungeon. Does that also mean they can't purchase tamalir upgrades at the end of that turn? They're not gained in a market visit, these are purchased when the party ends their turn on tamalir. Thoughts?

From the unfortunately redundant FAQ entry concerning what the Heroes can do after returning from a dungeon to Tamalir:

Q: Can the heroes Visit buildings, purchase Tamalir upgrades , or fight lieutenants if the party marker is placed in Tamalir after ending/fleeing a dungeon?
A: No.

Somewhat related...the heroes can't enter tamalir until they encounter the lt's there.

does that include all of them? and running away from all of them is a option right ?!

This is not correct. The heroes can enter Tamalir at anytime. It is merely that the heroes, if choosing to encounter lieutenants that turn must resolve their encounters before they "visit" (shop, temple, etc.). This prevents heroes from buying treasures before the fight, or fighting one lt. then healing at the temple and buying potions and equipment, etc. between battles. However, if an lt. is in tamalir with only one siege token, it might be smart for the heroes to enter and visit (shop) one turn, stocking up on equipment and potions, possibly upgrading the shop or the walls. If they have enough money and xp, they may want to spend the next turn training and upgrading some dice or buying skills they don't have yet like mighty or inner fire...possibly sending those without enough xp to the market or the alchemist again.

If the heroes attack one lieutenant and either win (by killing the lt. or making him flee) OR if they flee they can continue their "movement" to tamalir and then visit the various locations tamalir has to offer. They can choose to only do one lt. that turn and then save the next for next turn if there are multiples. However, if they encounter a lt. and it's a total party kill, then their turn ends for that week and they are unable to shop. Since normally the punishment for a tpk in an encounter is that you are sent back to tamalir, this means the only real punishment for a tpk is you can't shop that week...and the lost CP.

I thought the FAQ or maybe a forum post stated that you could visit the town between Lt fights? Am I wrong in my memory?

That was the previous FAQ ruling, which had now been changed.

From the faq:

"Q: If heroes are attacking a lieutenant in a town, can they "visit" the shops, etc. before encountering the lieutenant or only after battles haveresolved?

A: Only after battles have ended."

As you can see via the answer, nothing can happen in town until battles are over. As you can see from the question, this is only if the heroes are attacking a lieutenant in that town. Elsewhere in the faq it clarifies that town resources are unaffected by the presence of Lts./siege tokens at a location. Once a town is razed, however...no more shopping.

okay so can they attack all my Lt.'s or even just some of them and then go to town and try for the rest next turn ? (if they decide to have an encounter against them instead of going shoping)

Using more words than I need to due to the forum software, yes.

Thank you...for all your words.
