Which of these fleets should I pick?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

Alright, folks, I'm gonna be honest: I love fleet-building. Finding new interactions between ships and upgrades and utterly surprising my opponents with not-necessarily orthodox victories is the best part of my league. Winning is gravy (delicious, delicious gravy) to me.

Last week, I discovered how tasty that gravy can be. Therefore, I want your help in picking next week's tournament fleet.

As always, these are rough-drafts of fleets, so I'll gladly consider your tweaks. No one in my local meta runs Swarm, so I don't have to fear that. Also, discarded upgrades don't count to the point value of a ship when it dies, so ordnance, stealth device, adrenaline rush, and other upgrades that fall off are more useful than usual.

I have at my disposal 3 X Wing, 1 A Wing, 3 B Wing, 1 Y Wing, 2 YT-1300, 2 HWK, 6 Tie FIghters, 2 Tie Interceptor, 2 Tie Advanced, 2 Tie Bombers, 1 Lambda-Class Shuttle, 1 Firespray

I look at your "Focus" fleet and ask myself "why would I pick up Determination and TWO Proton Torpedoes instead of just getting a Heavy Laser Cannon?" I know, torps can crit while HLC's can't, at least not initially, but that's two more points and can only get used twice.

Oh, just reread the bottom part about some crazy houserule that says "if it's gone when its destroyed the points don't get counted." Then I'd need to assume that the points SHOULD be getting counted with the cards are discarded. If a crit blows something off then that wouldn't count either. Sorry but I'm just pointing out how crazy this idea is.

I actually argued against that house-rule when we formed the league, but was outvoted.

With a house rule like that I'd start looking at ways I could spend ordinance to take out more points than man remaining ships would be worth. I mean look at this:

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16 points) + Advance Torpedo (-6) + Homing Missile (-5) + Proton Bomb (-5) + Stealth Device (-3)

There you've got a 16 point "target" for your opponent that is carrying enough stuff that it should be able to "kill" 16 points of enemy and lose everything else before getting killed. You don't have the resources for this but three bombers like this and you could maybe kill enough points of opponent that they can NOT kill more points than you did.

One thing I'm thinking is PLAY CHEWBACCA if you can. I mean that's four points you deprive your opponent from getting while simultaneously countering TWO hits.
