Asteroids

By Galactic Funk, in X-Wing Rules Questions

When you land on an asteroid you don't get an action, you roll one attack dice to see if you take damage and you also cannot attack that round.

The following round when you move off the asteroid are you considered to be moving through the asteroid and have to roll an attack dice for potential damage even if you end up.clear of the asteroid?

I was under the impression that you roll once for the initial time you land on it and any movement through the asteroid to move off of it has already been resolved for purposes of taking the penalty. As long as you are successful in flying off of it.

Thanks!

I believe that IF you are far enough off the asteroid that your movement template does NOT touch it things happen like you were never on it. On the other hand if you just land your nose on it then your movement template WILL cross an asteroid next turn so you may get bumped again.

Lesson: If you're going to land on an asteroid make sure you do it well enough that you can get off clean.

SteveO is correct, I believe. If you're far enough on, or caught a corner of it, and you can put down your movement template without touching it, you're good. If the movement template to get off the asteroid is touching the asteroid, you have to roll damage again to see if you clip it on the way out. So yeah, if you just barely land on it, you may be rolling damage when you stop, and damage when you try to start up again.

Ok so you would be subject to the flying "through" an obstacle penalty the following round ONLY if your template comes in contact with the asteroid?

Here's from the FAQ:

Q: If a ship is already overlapping an obstacle
or proximity mine token, does it suffer the
effects of that token when it executes its
next maneuver?
A: Possibly. When it executes its next maneuver, if
the maneuver template or the ship’s final position
overlap the token, the ship hits the token and suffers
the effects. Otherwise, the ship doesn’t suffer any of
the token’s effects because it was only overlapping
in its original position, and the original position is
ignored for obstacle and proximity mine tokens.

Thanks man, I should know better than to ask a question like that w/o first consulting an FAQ. Lol

Can I hijack?

What if your single movement crosses one asteroid and ends you on a second? Do you roll 2 damage dice?

(yeah, it happened to me yesterday. figured the two dice seemed most logical. ahh, the trials and tribulations of a noob... although in my defense, it was that or fly off the board, and I survived the double impact lol)

One damage roll per turn. Also in the FAQ.

Yep, only one damage die regardless of how many obstacles you eat in a single movement.

So, you know, If you ever need to cross an asteroid field, ram into as many asteroids as you can while flying in order to minimize damage....

Heh he's right. Also pretty explicitly answered in the FAQ. :D
