Dangerous Covenants!

By I. J. Thompson, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Truthfully, I would have liked a concrete mention of the new species. As I'm in the process of removing species from the USM that have gotten (or will soon get) official write-ups, knowing which ones that this upcoming sourcebook will cover would be nice, particularly as the next update will be the final one.

I wlll put my vote in for Zabraks, as I think they've been missing from the game for quite some time. Then again, that species could be one of those held in reserve for Force & Destiny, given most of the Zabraks seen on screen have been Force-users (Darth Maul and two Jedi Council masters that looked nearly identical but were two separate individuals).

Since Suns of Fortune as Corellians as a variant Human, I wonder if we'll see Mandos as a variant Human as well.

They did the same type initial post for the scout book, too. No mention, at all, initially, of any new species. The Chiss cover, many of us assumed they would be included, but just as many of us figured it was a place holder.

As we haven't seen any placeholders in this system yet (they've been pretty honest from the gate), I would set dollars to donuts that Aqualish is going to be in there. The next, more detailed, update should confirm the races.

I knew when they announced the first Occupation handbook that others would follow. But I kinda thought that they would maybe actually release the book before they announced another one.

My wallet is crying. I haven't looked at the AoR beta, but I'll assume that's 6 unique Occupations, and another 6 in FaD. Weep wallet, weep.

The 6 in AoR are really the "same" as the ones in EtoE, for the most part, well at least the majority of them are. The talents are a bit more combat centered, and the skills are more combat centered (for sure), but a hired gun is a soldier, is a XXX.

The careers in Edge of the Empire are similar to the careers in Age of Rebellion in the same way a helicopter is to a submarine: they are both products of the modern age, they both get you places, they are both made predominantly out of metal, and they can both travel rather quickly.

The Hired Gun has the Body Guard, the Marauder, and the Mercenary Soldier.

The Soldier career from AoR has the Commando, the Medic, and the Sharpshooter.

Significantly different skill sets, vastly different talent trees, and really very different career concepts.

So where one person might look at say, "potayto, potahto," another could point out that one of them is a Russet potato and the other is a sweet potato.

Mmmmm, sweet potato. I'm hungry now.

The hired gun, with the know upcoming addition of 'eavys, would actually make a better soldier at this point, from an infantry typical soldier way of looking at it.

When I think of navy sailors: crypto techs, engineering, and aviation fields are not the first that come to mind. Just like when I think soldier, the medic and sniper are a part of the unit, but much more in supporting roles.

But you're not wrong. It's just how I see it.
