Is Obstacle Collision Die Roll an Attack?

By Lando Rasputin, in X-Wing Rules Questions

The other day I, quite foolishly it must be said, ran into an obstacle with a ship which had a Stealth Device. I duly rolled the requisite attack die and suffered 1 damage. My opponent then claimed this was a successful attack, thus destroying my stealth device.

The way I read the rules, only enemy ships perform "attacks"; the obstacle collision causes an attack die to be rolled, but the asteroid itself isn't performing an attack, per se. Thoughts?

No, it is not.

This was clarified in the FAQ when they said that an asteroid collision will not knock stealth off your ship. Nor will a mine, actually. Only an attack by another ship.

You're exactly correct.

Stealth requires both an attack, and that you're "hit" by that attack. Hit is strongly defined as being determined during Step 6, and concerns only uncanceled results during an attack.

Hm..I missed that FAQ somehow. Sorry for the redundant question, but thanks for the quick reply!

No, not a problem. Always nice when a question has a simple answer. :D

Or when simple answers to simple questions are just accepted. That's nice too.

Ha! You said a mouthful, brother.
