Two of a kind crew members

By MantoF18, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Am I allowed to put two copies of the same crew member upgrade on a single ship? For example, could I put two Recon Specialists on the Falcon and get 3 focus tokens on a single focus action. Ree-Yees! OR Two Intel Agents on a Shuttle to peek at Two nearby enemy ships? I can't believe I never thought about trying two Merc Co-Pilots on a Falcon, "Keep your distance Chewie" and let the crits fly!

I understand that most crew members would NOT have stacking effects, like Two gunner would NOT yield a third attack because of specific text built into the gunner card, but I wonder about:

Merc. Co-Pilot - Change up to Two Hits to a Crit at Range 3.

Recon Specialist - Assign THREE Focus tokens to your ship on a focus action.

Intel Agent - Look at 2 enemy maneuvers dials if within range.

P.S. I was building a Lambda Shuttle Squad and had 2 points leftover, then it occurred to me, TWO Intel agents aboard my ship, just to be a pain in the butt! I am interested to hear what everybody thinks about this one, thanks.

This should work fine, with one exception.

It was verified with the devs at GenCon that an action counts as the same action even if it comes from two different cards - so if you had two Saboteurs on your ship, for instance, you wouldn't be able to use both of them because of the no-repeat-actions clause.

But beyond that, have fun with it :)

Well 2 Gunners would be a bit pointless too, as you can't make another attack after resolving the attack from the first Gunner.

Thanks for the responses Buhallin and Rodent Mastermind. I think the 3 crew members I mentioned in the original post are the only ones that would possible benefit for having doubles...right? Well, here's how I see it base on this list of all the crew upgrades possible. It'll be easy to rule out a bunch real quick.

Intelligence Agent WINNER Double means twice the effect, twice the Intel!

Nien Nunb LOSER Unique card, only one allowed.

Mercenary Co-Pilot WINNER Two CRITs, but you still have to be at range 3, not much more effective then first Merc

Saboteur LOSER Forbidden to do two of the same Actions in one turn.

Navigator LOSER No added advantage to changing your maneuver, and then changing it again.

Recon Specialist WINNER Triple Focus, sounds fun! but probably not practical.

Chewbacca LOSER Unique card, only one allowed.

Flight Instructor LOSER They one ships that can hold'em, only have 1 agility, and you can't re-roll that die twice.

Gunner LOSER This Upgrade forbids a third attack.

Luke Skywalker LOSER Unique card, only one allowed.

Darth Vader LOSER Unique card, only one allowed.

Rebel Captive LOSER Unique card, only one allowed.

Weapons Engineer LOSER Card text spells out "2" target locks. So I would assume, that 2 Weapon ENG would NOT grant you 3 target locks at once.

Thanks for your input, I've enjoyed thinking about the possibilities...Imagine Two Chewie's to repair your ship! Or Darth Vader "I'll take 4 on my POS Shuttle to double crit you" lol sigh....no

Flight Instructor could potentially be useful - even though all double crew ships are currently, Agility 1, doesn't mean they always will be. And you could always throw a Stealth Device on there to get that second die.

Not saying it's a GOOD idea, but it would work ;)

Recon Specialist WINNER Triple Focus, sounds fun! but probably not practical.

I don't know. Having 3 Focus tokens on Chewie could be pretty useful. You could use one for your Attack and the rest for defense. True, you many not always use all 3 of them, but blocking a few extra hits on Chewie turns him into an even bigger tank.

Nevermind... I just realized that my question was stupid. More focus for defense = more attacks you can use focus on.

I'd be surprised if the shuttle's stealth device stays up more then 2 rounds, but It could be fun.

There are no stupid questions - only appropriately mocking answers. :D
