My friends and I have had some debate over this issue. Where Backstabber says "When attacking outside the defender's firing arc, roll 1 additional attack dice". My question is the rules state the firing arc is printed on the ships base card, however the Falcon has a 360 degree firing arc. So would you still be able to use Backstabber's ability or since the Falcon is 360 would it be useless?
Backstabber and the Falcon
The rules in the large ship insert that came with the Falcon cover this, but you have to read it closely to notice. Basically, the YT-1300 has a normal firing arc, as printed on the base. So if Backstabber is not in that front firing arc, he does get the bonus die for attacks.
The primary weapon on the YT-1300 is listed as a turret. So, although the firing arc is font only, the YT-1300 may use it's primaries regardless of whether or not the target is within this arc (so, 360 degrees). This is the same as the turret secondaries, that are able to fire at a target regardless of whether that target is in the firing arc of the ship or not (360 degrees).
The Firespray, on the other hand, has 2 firing arcs. So Backstabber does NOT get his bonus die when attacking from either the front or the rear firing arc of a Firespray. In essence, he becomes "Sidestabber" when attacking Firesprays.
Hope that helps.
The primary firing arc is printed on the card. The YT-1300 specifically states that it can fire outside this arc.
Backstabber CAN get the benefit for firing from behind or anywhere outside the primary arc.
.. the Falcon has a 360 degree firing arc.
It does not. It has a normal forward firing arc. The primary weapon can shoot in any direction. Re-read the rules from the falcon box. The relevant rule is not in the rulebook.
From FAQ:
As always a great help. I do not have any large ships so I didn't think to look online in their rules for it. Thanks again.
I don't remember - does the Firespray insert say pretty much the same thing about the front arc only counting for this purpose?
From FAQ:
Q: When exactly can Backstabber trigger his ability?
A: Backstabber triggers his ability only if no portion of his base is inside any of the printed firing arcs on the defender’s ship token.

The Firespray actually has a front and auxiliary firing arc printed on the base. Both are counted as firing arcs.
So in this case Backstabber is actually Sidestabber
This topic has been brought up several times before in various forms.
When looking at the Firespray and its TWO printed firing arcs Backstabber needs to be outside of both of them for the bonus. With the YT-1300 while the primary weapon can be used in any direction it still has only one fire-arc printed on it. If you want to argue that the YT's "firing arc" should be 360 degrees and avoid Backstabber completely I'd agree with you but that isn't the official ruling.
Nope, I just thought the Firespray counted front and back both against Backstabber but didn't have the rules handy to double check.
