B-wing, X-wingx2 build

By Millennium Falsehood, in X-Wing

I just got a B-wing, and have been thinking about how to use this bad boy. I definitely want to pair him with a couple of X-wings, but I'd like to know which ones will work the best.

I'm thinking the following will be a good start:

6 Ibtisam (28)

-Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

-Fire-Control System (2)

-Advanced Torpedoes (6)

8 Luke Skywalker (28)

-R2-D2 (4)

-Shield Upgrade (4)

2 Rookie Pilot (21)

Total: 100 pts

I haven't run this obviously, so I'm not sure what flaws, if any, exist in this build.

I'd probably ditch the APT to upgrade the Rookie to Biggs with R2-F2 and maybe a stealth device. Then maybe swap Luke for Wedge without the shield or R2-D2. Give him Squad Leader. Draw their Fire on Ibti perhaps.

You've got a lot of points/firepower in one basket with Ibtisam, maybe give Luke or the rookie the advanced torpedoes and make it a tougher choice who to pick on.

I tend to try and keep my numbers up by having no more than one upgrade per ship, unless I need to make up points. That's just my style though, I hear a lot of people use 3 ship lists effectively.

I agree with a lot of what has already been said.

I really wanted to make the APT's work but after trying it a couple times on the B-wings I just don't think its worth it. I think they might work best on Slave 1.

I've found that the APT works best against large ships and in mission play. Have you run this list against a swarm? I think a solid swarm player will give you some trouble killing off the rookies first. Also if it has Mauler and/or Backstabber in it that would be bad for your B-wing with its low evade dice.

If you like 3 X's and the B, then I would drop the APT, then with the points, I would upgrade Luke to Wedge and give him a proton torp and give Ibti Veteran Instincts.

That makes for a nice 9,8 PS combo with your PS 2 Rookies. Good all round firepower.

I don't run APT unless there's a way to get 2 actions on a turn. It's a waste of 6 points if you don't have both the TL & Focus. While you can take two turns to set them up, I find that a good opponent won't give you the chance to loose them. Also, an X-Wing is much more maneuverable than a B-Wing, so it'll be easier to get into range 1 with the X if you decide to keep them.

I would strongly advise against putting DTF (Draw Their Fire) on Ibby. Her low shields will force too many face up cards and she's the clear first target in this list (unless you add Biggs).

Ibtisam has the highest shields (5) on the Rebel side, save for the Millennium Falcon, so I don't know where you're getting the idea that her shields are "low".

Bah! You're right. I was thinking the shields were only like 2 or 3 for some reason and she had a bunch of hull... I usually double check before making a comment like that and didn't this time. I'm sorry for the misinformation!

I still think that she's likely to be the first target of this list though and a VI or something might be better use for the time that she's alive. I can definitely see the value of DTF on her if there's other targets around though. It's definitely not as bad as my brain made it out to be...

Yeah, I'm definitely liking DTF on Ibtisam. I just need to look over my list and see what I need to change.

I think the biggest concern I have is the lack of maneuverability on the B-Wing and how it won't keep up with the more agile ships on the squad.

In many of my games these days, it seems the b-wing has 1 shield instead of 5 - the first volley concussion missile knocks off 4. I'm usually crossing my fingers that I'll get an evade vs the 2nd one, or the B-Wing is gone without doing anything of value.

I wouldn't give her DTF without Biggs. The point would be to pull the crits off Biggs to keep him going a little longer.

I'm not a fan of munitions in this game so what I'd do is drop the APT on Ibtisam and use the points to give her and Luke VI and a R2 to each of the rookies. Comes in at 98 points for initiative purposes and gives you a ps10, ps8 & 2 ps2 pilots. I've found VI to be very effective on Luke for me.

Ibtisam, Luke, and 2 Rookies comes to 98 points with NO upgrades, FYI.

Ibtisam needs a way to get stressed regularly. Push the Limit is definitely that. I run her with Advanced Sensors and an Engine Upgrade to make her the most maneuverable Range 1 fighter in existence.
