My solution would simply be to tell the players that their cargo is "X credits' worth of blaster rifles in crates" rather than saying "your ship can carry X amount of cargo, so we convert that from encumbrance points to tons, estimate how much a 900 credit blaster rifle weighs, adjust for region price differences..."

By calculating and studing the deck plans of the Millenium Falcon I decided for myself the following values:

Storage capacity 200 cbm. That means space for 2500 moving cartons :P :D Such a carton would hold 6 heavy blaster pistols. That means a not overloaded YT-1300 could handle 15.000 heavy blasters. One of them maybe 3,5 kg would mean up to 60 tons (with weight of the boxes).

I only have to keep the dimensions of a moving box in mind. That will help for roughly calculating the amount of the goods.

Any time in any situation other than statistics or an electronics formula i have to use pi then that is too much math for me lol. just sayin. if i have to use pi in a game then the game is no longer fun for me. i like the more narrative aspect of it and let the mathmaticians have fun sorting it all out for us . :)

and of course the grammar police have have their way with me also. ok, so did i leave anyone out?

I agree with you. which is why for a very simple solution multiplying the cargo encumbrance by 10 like other ship to personal scale seemed to me to be very easy and fast solution, or like cheaply said the narrative of you have x credits of stuff works too depending on the style of group you have.
