Tusken Raider vs Pilot Luke

By MacRauri, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

This came up in a game tonight: Luke is attached as an enhancement onto a generic snowspeeder. I block with a tusken raider and win edge. Can I apply the 1 damage to the speeder first and then focus down Luke when he detaches? Or is there a timing issue where I have to resolve my tactics icon before Luke hits the table as a character? Thanks!

Yes you can

Has this been answered officially somewhere? I disagree that this can be done. All combat icons are resolved simultaneously, which means that Luke would not be available to assign any icons.

Where does it say that you résolve combat icons simultaneously?

Core Rulebook, Page 20 :

"Resolving Combat Icons by Type

Most units have one or more printed combat icons (see “Combat Icons” on page 21). There are three types of combat icons, and each icon type is resolved in the order of the striking player’s choosing . The number of icons for every given icon type represents the card’s icon strength of that icon type."

Combat icons are in fact not resolved simultaneously. Combat icons of a given type (unit damage/blast damage/tactics) are, but each type is resolved one at a time. So you would resolve the unit damage, which would result in the speeder's immediate destruction and the triggering of Luke's ability before you would move on to resolving the tactics damage (assuming you choose to resolve them in that order).

So am I confusing the simultaneous resolving of a single type of combat icon with multiple types?

I think so. All instances of a single type of combat icon get resolved simultaneously. Different types are resolved in the order of the striking unit's controller.

That sounds about right.

Particularly, Page 22 of the Rulebook gives a good example of how this works with Luke's strike in the example. Luke focuses to strike, and the LS player resolves the Unit Damage icons first, destroying Kuati Security Team, then resolves the blast damage icons to deal damage to the objective.
