Time to stop talking about new factions

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

i was one of those who really wanted to see new factions like pirates and black sun.

but the more i play and the more things FFG puts out, i think i have a new hope. (no pun intended)

that hope is more aces and squadron packs released between waves.

also, asteroids are getting boring, can we get some other type of space terrain?

how about a capitol ship wreckage, meteor swarms, nebulas, any thing that will change things up abit.

or how about a deck of battlefeild event cards.

example:

1- meteor shower passes through combat area, all craft roll 1 attack die for damage

2- electro magnetic interference, must roll 1 attack die when using a target lock. you must roll a hit for it to work.

3- nearby gravity field, all craft treat all white turns as red, and all green turns as white.

4- capitol ship battle, the area of the table is between 2 capitol ships exchanging broadsides. during the end phase of every turn, each player chooses 1 enemy ship and rolls 2 attack die. the ship can roll to evade as normal.

i can go on, but what do you all think?

I like your ideas (a lot), but I still want a "neutral" faction. We don't need a whole litany of subgroups, but by adding neutral you can play just that, or add them to a rebel or imp squad.

Nothing wrong with a little added flavor.

Last week I saw that Attack Wing has planets as obstacles. That'd be kinda cool.

I don't want a third faction, but I think I might be able to see those cloud car things from ESB flying on both sides....

I don't want a third faction but having the option to build with those ships under empire or rebel would be cool. I wouldn't mind seeing a Rouge Shadow that could be played as either imperial or rebel.

I also would love some new game enhancements.

I'm working on running a tournament event at MLGS that uses the tokens from the falcon, shuttle, and core set. Just for something else.

I'm not sure about a third faction, but I would, however, like to see multiple miniatures in a special themed pack.

Example: Rogue Squadron pack, which contains everything you need for a nicely well rounded out Rebel squad consisting of:
-Wedge Antilles

-Wes Janson

-Hobbie Klivian

-Corran Horn

-Tycho Celchu

-Ibitsam

-Rogue Squadron Pilot

-5 specially painted X-wing miniatures

-1 specially painted A-wing miniature

-1 specially painted B-wing miniature

-Alternate art pilot cards

-Special astromech unit cards

-Standard secondary weapon cards

On that same token, the Imperials should have a pack like that, though I haven't decided if it should be a Black Squadron pack, a 181st Fighter pack, or something else entirely.

Yes and Snowspeaders as well. Then we have to include AT-AT, AT-ST.

And damit, if we get cloud car things (:P) when we need a mini of Cloud City it's self as well.

I want to see a neutral faction...after wave 5. I suspect there are a few more rebel/imperial specifics but at a certain point, we get to things both sides used. Still keep putting out side specific but also go with the blended.

Love battlefield event cards. Totally stealing those for my campaign.

Would like to see ore obstacle options.

Also pretty sure we'll see clone wars game at some point.

Attack wing has 'self-replicating' mines, they do 0-4 damage, you roll an attack die, on a hit / crit suffer one damage, roll again until you roll a focus or blank, that's how it gets to 4 damage....pretty cool and vicious! You only roll a max of 4 times.

We're not allowed to use Black Sun or planets? Uh-oh...

Yeah, more obstacle variety would be cool, maybe a stations or larger ships in token form. Some containers, to scale, not like the things that come with the Falcon, or a bulk freighter would be easy to do for both mission uses and would provide new navigational challenges. Think about a couple of large rectangular containers set up like a cargo staging area.

I'd use my Attack Wing planet, but I think unless it comes from FFG people will resist. Also, the planet's not to scale...

Craft stores have half-hemisphere foam spheres that make quick and easy planets.

We also use some of the metal dome templates from the Games company in the UK as planets. When placed on small battery powered rotating display bases they give the planets the appearance of rotation.

It would be interesting to see some "wreckage" markers, so rather than removing a destroyed ship, you place a wreckage obstacle where it "died" and follow the asteroid rules.

In the movies there isn't enough wreckage left from fighters to matter.

If you destroy a large ship like a Falcon it's wreckage continues doing 1 forwards until it clears the map! That would be awesome and remind me of the number of times in X-wing (the computer game) I blew up a shuttle only to have a bit of it spin off and destroy my ship.

NOOOOOOO not the flying red boobies! They take up a production slot of a possibly GOOD fighter we would otherwise get!

I was considering the wreckage thing, I think the way I would do it is grab a D10. When a ship gets destroyed roll the dice, if you get under the initial Hull of the ship it leaves Wreckage. Small Wreckage for Fighters, Large Wreckage for Large based ships..

I'm not letting the fact FFG are not going to allow us to play pirates to get in the way :)

neutral is a third faction, and as they said they will not be adding a 3rd faction, the only possible thing i can think might happen is FFG releasing ships with pilot cards for both factions.

but what would the manuever dial look like????????

Once I start getting bored I'll work on my 3rd faction ideas for homebrew. One idea I like is uglies with asymmetrical dials.

I love the idea of new terrain.
