LCG platforms

By PGCaedus87, in Star Wars: The Card Game

I would love to be able to play Star Wars all the time to be able to stay fresh with all the rules, but unfortunately I don't know many people near me who play and the ones I do know, I don't see that often. I would to see this Star Wars card game become a game I can play on my PC, mobile device or console. Anyone think its a good idea? Magic is now an online game as well as still a card game. I would to see this game get similar treatment and watch it grow even more.

You can already play it online on PC using OCTGN. I doubt we will see anything official any time soon if ever.

Official is impossible as FFG own the rights to phsyical releases, such as card games/miniatures and RPGs.

As has been discussed to death already, FFG simply don't have any way to release their products digitally. Not only would the cost for them developing the game/hiring it be out of their budget, but they would then have to pay Disney who knows how many hundreds of thousands/millions for a new license that EA currently has console exclusive rights for and rovio seem to have mobile rights to star Wars with the Angry Star Was line of games.

Basically, FFG aren't really interested nor could they ever afford to bring their LCGs to the digital market. Maybe CoC, depending on the rights to that.

Star Wars: You should read up on the nerd rage that legally, FFG can't sell PDFs of the RPG books to know that such thoughts of a digital LCG are impossible.

Netrunner: Owned by Wizards of the Coats, licensed out to FFG. FFG only own the Android universe aspect of the game and thus could never hope to release it online as it would be too expensive.

LotR: The LotR estate have banned digital only sales of LotR products (so, no ipad/tablet only games). A product must have a physical version available in order to be allowed. in a LotR LCG digital case, the card game wouldn't count, FFG would have to release it on disc for PC or whatever other platform (increasing costs exponentially).

Warhammer: I believe another video games company own that license right now, so far too expensive to even bother.

AGoT: Another one that could be possible now that I think about it, they do have a good relationship with Martin after all. The problem is still cost and the fact that FFG are a board games company and not a video game company.

Good points, thanks for bringing those up. Now I see why they let Lackey and OCTGN exist instead of squashing them.

I agree with everything except:

Basically, FFG aren't really interested nor could they ever afford to bring their LCGs to the digital market. Maybe CoC, depending on the rights to that.

I seriously doubt they aren't interested. I am sure they're very interested but like you said, they'd have to negotiate a new digital license and, most likely, supplant a publisher/studio that is already in place. Short of an original property, digital versions of the current LCGs would be too cost prohibitive to produce (barring some sort of future partnership, of course.)

As far as Star Wars is concerned, I think the answer really lies with Disney and what it plans to do those properties that were previously part of LucasArts.
