Using custom vinyl banners as play mat.

By CaliAlpha, in X-Wing

Thought I would share this just in case anyone else was interested in making custom vinyl banners and using them as play mats for x wing. The website I used to create my 3ft by 3ft is from buildasign.com

Free shipping within the United States. The estimate is about 2 weeks but I have read from reviews of this company is that productions gets them out early and the product is pretty good. Guess we will see and find out how good it is. Stay tune! :D

Sounds awesome.

Man, I'd be SUPER careful about selling anything with something on it that even remotely resembles Star Wars stuff. Back when Lucasfilm was its own entity they were pretty consistent about issuing C&D orders to people making unauthorized Star Wars merchandise, and with the Star Wars license under Disney control it will be ten times worse because they are historically almost fanatical about protecting their IP.

Get rid of the Star Destroyers though, and you should be fine.

I agree, the mat looks great but you're taking a huge risk. Another reason to loose the ISD's is because it limits the use of the mat, it sets it in time. I would go for some more generic picture of Imperial Centre or another planet. The idea is great though: have mats with all the major planets fought over in the movies to play on.

I don't know much about the legal side of stuff, but the only thing that "erks" me about the pic is the third ISD. All you see are the engines...can you even see an outline of the third one?

Interesting, through a legal aspect. I guess will find out. I didn't take the whole mat just got the planet mostly. Image was found off google.

I think you should totally make these and sell them on ebay and amazon...mass produce and sell IMO! DO IT!

Looks like I may need to explore this a bit more. This is sweet!

That's another warning flag in my mind. If you found the image off Google and didn't get the original artist's permission, not only will you get in trouble with LFL/Disney but the original artist as well. Considering C&Ds often lead to you having to pay back all the money you made, including what you spent to print them, this is a risk that's just not worth taking.

There is a story about a guy who made some busts of Jeremy Bulloch with Boba Fett's helmet which he sold, and Lucasfilm got wind of it and sued him for every copy he made. Every one. And they won.

Again, just don't do it. It's not worth the trouble you'd get into to do that.

Alright thanks for the heads up. Now I know and be way more careful.

I will now use a public pictures about the stars.
