Empire elites vs Lando’s strike force:
----
My list:
Vader with Conc Missile, Adrenaline Rush, and Engine upgrade (38)
Soontir Fel with PTL and Stealth (33)
Turr Phennir with Vet Instincts and Stealth (29)
-----
The enemy:
Lando with Marksmanship and Gunner (52)
2x Green Squad with Homing missiles (24x2)
Unfortunately I was able to get any pictures, so I’ll do my best to describe the various movements.
So, I was a little worried going into the game, since interceptors don’t do well against falcons, and the homing missiles would also be scary if he ever got them off (especially with a focus). So my main goal going into the game was to not let either missile get off.
In setup, he put both GSP and Lando on the far right to avoid the asteroid cluster near the center. I figured I could adjust my movements with all PS9 to not let the missiles get off and deployed across from him with Vader on the right, Soontir in the middle, and Turr on the left. Last time I ran this I clipped an asteroid with Vader so I didn’t want that to happen again.
T1: GSP move up 2 as well as 2 from Lando. I move all my ships up 3. I boost Vader up but end up just out of range of the front GSP and falcon, so I just chill with the interceptors.
T2: GSP move up slow, the first one TL Soontir and the back one TL Vader. Lando moves up 1 does marksmanship and gives evade to the front GSP. I move up slow with Vader, and he is in range to TL the back GSP (which means he can shoot me back with homing if he lives) plus focus. I then get sneaky with Soontir and move him up 2, then boost to put him in the small space between the falcon, GSP, and the board edge so he can’t get missiled. He does the usual PTL thing. However, I’m getting nervous since the edge of his base is less than ½” from the board edge at an angle. Turr moves up 2 to shoot the falcon. Between Vader’s missile and Soontir’s R1 shot, the rear GSP goes down (just barely). Tur takes a shield or two off the falcon (can’t remember the exact damage each turn). Lando opens up on Soontir and rolls well and does two damage through Soontir’s Stealth and green tokens.
T3: The GSP runs into Soontir so that he would block me from a 1 hard turn (best way to stay on the board). Lando then runs into the GSP (which wasn’t expected, but could still deal with it). Soontir moves first. I figured he might try to block me. So I did a 2 hard, move the ship, and the back corner is about 3mm from the board edge. My opponent said "that was too close" and I definitely concurred. He does the normal defensive PTL (focus+evade+focus). Turr does a 5 K-turn and get just behind Lando, unfortunately R1 from Lando. Vader tries a 3 bank left, but rams into the falcon, but still able to see the GSP a ¼” away from him. Vader gets a nice shot off on the GSP, doing both shields. Turr shoots at the falcon and does a little damage, bringing Lando to 2 shields I believe. Lando shoots, rolls 2 hits and 2 crits without marksmanship, Turr wiffs his roll and gets one shot! GSP misses Vader.
T4: So, the GSP still has a TL on Soontir (who has 1 hit point left) and Turr is vaped, while the two rebel ships are doing ok. This is going to be rough. The GSP does a 3 k-turn to line up his homing on Soontir. Lando does a soft turn to stay away while taking marksmanship, and would have given a focus to the GSP but with stress it wouldn’t work. Soontir moves 3 soft towards the asteroids in the center to try and get some cover, and boots to barely get out of the way of the GSP (and PTL evade+focus to survive Lando’s shot. Vader does a 4 k-turn and uses Adrenaline rush to TL the falcon and focus. Nothing happens in shooting, with Vader missing the long range shot and Lando unable to hit Soontir with his defense).
T5: GSP banks 2 left to clear stress, and takes focus to try and missile at Soontir to finish him off. Lando moves slow around the bottom right asteroid, and does marksmanship. He was out of range to give the GSP an evade action. Soontir does a hard 3 around the middle asteroid, and does another boost to get out of the arc of the GSP just barely again, plus PTL to defense up against Lando. Vader banks slow which puts him right in front of the GSP, and just does focus with evade (keeping TL on Lando from before). Vader shoots and does one damage to the GSP. Soontir who can’t hit anything is barely able to survive Lando’s shot. GPS misses Vader thanks to his evade.
T6: GSP does a hard 1 left to line up on Soontir next move. Lando goes slow again around the asteroid, and does marksmanship. Vader does a 2 soft to get behind the falcon, and boots to get into range 1 and back in arc sight and takes a focus. Soontir, being the stud he is, does a two soft left, landing just in front of the GSP. However, he does a barrel roll right in front of the enemy ship, putting him barely able to clip the GSP base while the AW is a few millimeters from seeing Soontir. Soontir takes evade+focus for the falcon. In shooting, Soontir unfortunately can’t get the last hit on the GSP (even at R1 with focus). Vader rolls well and gets Lando down a couple hull points. Lando shoots at Soontir yet again (but at long range with asteroid) so Soontir evades again. GSP can’t hit anything.
T7: GSP gets gusty, does a 5 k-turn. He clips an asteroid (rolls an eye), and just misses Lando. However, this puts him in a really good spot to missile at soontir. Lando goes slow around the asteroid again. Vader stays on his tail, taking a focus+TL. Soontir does a 2 hard, then boost, then barrel roll right in front of the asteroid the AW barely clipped. In shooting, Soontir still can’t hit the AW (although through an asteroid). Vader does a single damage to Lando (bringing him to 5 hull left). Lando is finally able to get a range 1 shot on Soontir and is able to force the last hit through. I’m sure the GSP was rather upset that he couldn't get his missile off all game, with Lando stealing his kill
T8: The GSP gets excited, wanting to get away from Vader (who is pretty close on his tail), so he moves 5 straight to get away from the whole mess. However, he clips the asteroid again and rolls a hit! I’ll take whatever I can get at this point. Lando starts turning back into the center of the board to fly though the asteroid lanes while taking marksmanship, but Vader isn't fooled and stays right on his tail (taking TL+focus). In shooting, Vader uses his focus to get two hits though onto Lando (bringing him to 3 hull left), but Lando rolls well, getting three hits and Vader rolls 3 eyes. So Vader has 2 hull left to Lando’s 3. This is getting dicey.
T9: Lando goes a bit quicker, maneuvering through a couple asteroids, but Vader stays right on him. They exchange fire, and Vader only does one damage, but Lando forces through a crit onto Vader (the one that ignores my elite talent and pilot special rule). Each ship has one hull left! Also, Vader can only take one action but still has TL on Lando.
T10: This is it. Lando makes for a bigger bank, getting away from the center of the asteroid and does marksmanship. Vader does a bank around the asteroid, and has to use his action to get back into range one of Lando. Vader shoots first: 1 hit, 2 eyes. I use TL on the 2 eyes……and get another 2 eyes. Blast, if only I had my two actions to get a focus. Lando took TL so he doesn't have a focus. He rolls……. 1 evade! He barely survives Vader’s attack. Lando shoots back. He whiffs his first roll and Vader easily evades one hit. However, Gunner activates and and with a TL Lando gets 2 hits. Vader rolls his dice and gets a blank, a focus, and an evade. Vader bites the dust. The rebels win with Lando at 1 hull left with 3 minutes left on the timer.
The game was an absolute blast. I think the list is very fun to play, but it does suffer from the risk of getting a third of your force one shot. I’ll have to give another try (second time flying it), and hopefully won’t run up against a decked falcon again J
