What would you build to counter this next-wave Empire build?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

Soontir Fel

-Targeting Computer

-Opportunist

[33]

Carnor Jax

-Elusiveness

[28]

Including the upgrades from the Royal Guard Tie Interceptor expansion.

Captain Yorr

[24]

Black Squadron Pilot

-Draw Their Fire

[15]

Until an errata comes out to say otherwise, Captain Yorr's stress relief effects both Elusiveness, and more problematically, Opportunist, allowing for recursion.

This means, ideally, Carnor Jax would be in Range 1 of the target, and Soontir Fel would be in Range 1 of my other two ships. He would Target Lock the target ship, and at the start of combat trigger Opportunist up to 4 times (3 going to Yorr, 1 going to himself). This leaves him with up to 7 attack dice, a target lock, a focus, and an enemy ship that cannot spend focus or evasion tokens to dodge.

Talk about one hell of an Alpha Strike!

Of course, Yorr would then need 3 turns of green maneuvers to be able to load up a similar strike again, and has the maneuverability of a brick, preventing this from being absolutely horrifyingly overpowered.

I think the better question would be, if "you" (the pilot using opportunist) do not actually receive the stress token (Yorr takes it) does the opportunist card even activate

I'm leaning toward no but there is potentially room for debate

The stress token was received, albeit by someone else. If the card doesn't activate, then there is no stress token to be had.

It is only these two upgrades that are effected, because they're not actions, and PTL has its' own cap, clearly for this reason.

Yorr doesn't work with Elusiveness or Opportunity at all.

Captain Yorr receives the stress token when another ship "would receive a stress token." The original ship never receives a stress token, so the rest of the effect does not resolve.

Elusiveness and Opportunist are worded in the form "do X to perform Y". If X doesn't happen because it was interrupted by another effect (such as Yorr taking the stress token instead of the ship with the ability), you cannot perform Y.

Rolling the extra die is dependent on receiving a stress token. If you do not receive a stress token, you cannot resolve the rest of the effect.

Beyond that, I am fairly certain that a card such as Opportunist can only be used once per triggering condition (IE: once per attack), so you cannot chain it.

Yorr is only effective on Stress tokens that are assigned without being a cost to perform a result (such as red maneuver or Push the Limit).

Sadly I agree with this.

Got very excited as I started reading this thread and Forgot myself.

Keep looking for loopholes tho, we all love em

If you have

Soontir Fel

Opportunist

Royal Guard TIE

Stealth Device + Targeting Computer

Cranor Jax

PTL

Roual Guard TIE

Stealth Device + Targeting Computer

Why would you ever want to get ride of that stress! Just keep the 2 of them flying in tight formation. Jax's ability to prevent "Focus" and "Evade" actions would allow Fel to attack at Range 1 with 5 dice, a TL, and a Focus. Jax would also be able to strike at Range 1 with 4 dice, a TL, and a Focus. BOOM!

Then just clear out with a nice green maneuver and set back up for another pass.

I'd want to get rid of the stress so I can RE-stress every turn. Soontir Fel's ability only kicks in when he gets the stress in the first place.

Captain Yorr's there for the recursion factor.
