Dice towers with EOTE's big dice pools

By 9littlebees, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just a quick question about dice towers as I've found some on sale and I've wanted one for some time before I started GMing EOTE.

Does anyone use the standard 13cm dice towers when playing EOTE? Just wondering if they can handle the size of the dice pools in this game...

I guess I'm just old fashioned.

I haven't found a dice pool I can't roll with one or two hands.

Dice towers typically have catch bins at the bottom so your dice don't go all over the table. This is good as my players seem to like to throw their dice into the middle of the miniatures (Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, Warhammer 40k, etc...). They also help to remove cheating from the rolls.

I use a LEGO tower that I built. I can dump an entire container of 36 D6s into it, or about 15 D20s easily.

Agree, I have a smallish table at home where I GM, so dice tend to knock over minis, roll off table and get "cocked" on uneven surfaces, prompting a debate on whether a reroll is required.

I could make space on the table for a smallish dice tower, I just don't know whether the standard 13cm long towers can cope with this system's dice pools.

You might also consider a dice tray, there are a number of well-designed options on Etsy and Kickstarter, and probably elsewhere around the net. I haven't yet had the need for such in many years of gaming, but I'm considering it now....

You can use a small square tupperware, and who cheats at rolling dice? You play with a bunch of stage magicians that use slight of hand? Why play with cheaters?

I've seen players doing Bloodbowl (which generally only rolls 2 dice, making them easy to control the toss) cheat, Warhammer, and had players in various RPGs. So, I require the rolls be in the open where I can see them using dice that I can read. I haven't had a player object to that in my current group as I reciprocate by also rolling in the open with legible dice.

I'd point out that none of that which you just posted has anything to do with a dice tower.

I have my players roll out in the open too. Unless you have Ewok hands, you should be able to handle some pretty decent sized dice pools without any problems whatsoever.

So far, none of my players have given my tightly honed dark side senses a warning that they are going all Qui Gon on the dice. Until such a thing happens, I think I'm safe.
