ls the only way the Ancient Ones Doom track advances apart from cards that say it advances, is by placing a Gate & Monster on the board, either by Mythos or Location cards.

I might have forgotten any special circumstances but generally that's more than enough to get the doom-track advancing way faster than you want to...

Also if the terror level is at 10 and an effect (usually mythos) causes it to increase, that number of doom tokens are added to the track.
