My Custom YT-1200 or What have I done to my Falcon???

By ZombieHedgehog, in X-Wing

This is some fine work.

:)

Where are the weapons on your first ship by the way?

Would you mind posting some larger images of these?

Thanks!!

The turret is underneath still, jus nothing on top, may have something hidden away or an upgrades gun to justify it having the same attack dice as a YT-1300 in the game.

I'll have a look at posting some bigger photos soon!

Nicely done. Very Impressive.

Managed to make a decent amount of progress today and have nearly finished.

I've started with the base coat and first wash. Not sure when I will have chance to finish painting but I don't think it will take long now:

As it was getting dark so there was no natural light I decided to give painting a rest and start work on my second outer rim smuggler. I made pretty quick progress with this conversion, not nearly as much work involved.

Hopefully will be able to finding painting both ships pretty soon. I just need to paint a couple more ships and I'll have my 100pts list finished. I'll then get to work on some background for the list as well as some custom cards. I'll not be making any special rules, just wanted to put some cards together with pictures of the actual ships.

wow. impressive transformation. lookn fwd to seeing the final painted ship!

I can't wait to see these puppies all painted up and ready to transport some illicit goods.

Really nice job with the detailing, with the undercoat down, it's hard to see where the original model ends and your parts start.

Thanks for the comments everyone, glad people like the custom threads, it's something I really like about these forums, maybe we could put a thread together to maybe link to all of the custom threads to make it easier for people to find?

I'm surprised how well it's turned out, it's not perfect though although I am happy with what I've done. I did spend a lot of time on the new panels which I think has helped with it blending in with the actual model. I really enjoyed working on the YT-1200 conversion which helped getting it finished.

I was suprised how quickly th YT-1300 took, managed to complete the whole conversion to get it just about ready for paint in an evening but she I look at the photos I can sort of see why as I've only replace a small part of the ship.

I'm looking at doing some more conversions now, at least 1 more falcon, I'm not sure how to make it different though. I'm also not sure on what else I could convert or build. I'm sure I'll find some inspiration somewhere.

I'm super impressed by the YT conversions in this thread and have really enjoyed the pics along the way that show the plasticard mods. Very inspiring work! I'm looking forward to seeing the final results.

Had a bit of a set back with the painting of the YT-1200 unfortunately, started to get it painted but I was really unhappy with the colour scheme so I've started again, I will hopefully have some more progress shots soon. it shouldn't take long to get finished once I find the time. After how much work has gone in to this conversion I would really like to get it finished, as I'm planning on more conversions, I don't want to get distracted and leave this project.

this is looking awesome, looking to convert a revell kit one, thanks for the inspiration.

The revel kit is a little small but if you're not bothered, great, it coming in parts will help a lot with the conversion.

I did pick up a kit a while ago to see if was the exact scale, when it wasn't I used it to see how I would go about this conversion, it wasn't pretty but I did decide that I liked the design of the YT-1200, I'll have to post a couple of photo's.

You will have to get some photo's of your conversion, will be good to see another on here!!

Bravo! They look great.

Quick update, apologies for the quality of the photo, need to sort a better photo out soon.

Started the paint scheme again, gave black and yellow chequered pattern a go just for something a bit different compared to my other schemes using yellow. Still work in progress, hope to get this finished soon.

WOW, and it's unfinished, I couldn't imagine when it 's completed, great job, congratulations, greettings.

Wow!! Great work!!

Thanks for your comments.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm happy with the finish with the off white for the main colour. I'll keep working on it when I get chance.

As soon as you have this finished I'll post it up on The Black Ocean's Facebook Page. It's fantastic.

Finally got round to taking a photo of my YT-1200, it's just about finished, I just need to finish the engine glow and a few last little things in the underside but this is just about done then I can get it varnished.

I really enjoyed this project, I would gladly build another YT-1200 and probably will at some point, I would just like to complete my other, more complex projects first.

Friggin' excellent paintjob. You did a nice job on the engines too. Can we take a peek at the backside?

Taxi! TAXI!!

Complex projects? What can they be, if this wasn't a complex project?

This was pretty complex but not as complex as the scratch built in progress YT-2400, my custom YT-1300 also has a lot more scratch built parts on it as it has magnetise cargo holds which take a bit more time to put together and add details. However, I did have a lot more free time when I was building this.

I think i could have painted this a little better, wasn't happy with the main hull colour so ended up going over whole thing again. I will try to remember to take more photos of this, should hopefully get it's done in the next few days.

Thanks for the comments!!

I really like it, the paint job looks good, the only place I'm not sure about are the checkers on the front of the boom. They don't look very even, though that could be that the surface isn't flat.

It was difficult to paint due to the angle and I've not painted checkers for a very long time, I will have a look again as I would like to try to neaten them all up. It doesn't help when you've been posting pics of your stuff :), you paint things ridiculously well , your miniatures are very, very nice. I'm looking forward to seeing your B-Wings. Have you managed any more progress on your uglies miniatures?

nope, I've been enjoying painting X-Wings far too much. I really need to finish Gavin too, he's so close to the end.. but the B-Wing has been distracting me today.

You've done a beautiful job with the conversion and the paint job is great. It's just those front checkers stood out. Did you see my post about painting checks? I used to do it by painting a grid, and filling in, but that led to one set of checks being bigger, so you had to go back and repair all of them. This is my new way of doing it and I've found this way gives you much more consistent results (and saves a lot of work).

Unfortunately I saw you guide on painting checks after I had painted this, I'll take another look at them, I appreciate your help with this, I do want the paint to look good as I've spent on bulding this miniature. I painted a grid on to this, I can see your method will help get a better result, I just need to be a bit steadier and patient when painting which I hope will come with practice. I just need to find some time now.

I forgot about the name of the ship, I was thinking Gambit's Bounty, what do people think?

Thanks again!
