Attack die rules...idea!

By HAWK70, in X-Wing

how about a more realistic feel to the game...!

each ship rolls 1 die for each laser........

X-wing = 4

T/F =2

T/I = 4

falcon = 4 or 6 depending on if it has forward facing laseres.

i have not included torps or missiles

twin linked turrets = 2 die

and i would allow the falcon or any other similar ship to have 2 or 3 target locks or the ability to fire at 2 or 3 seperate targets , one for each turret and 1 for missiles/torps if in range or arc.

i would like to play test this but there is no one i acn play against ;(

out of a population of 600 i am the only one who is an X-winger.

and i cant go to the next tonw or city as there isnt one for miles and miles and includes a boat trip and i get sea sick.

Realism, huh? Why are we treating space ships as if they were fighting in an atmosphere?

I'm sure FFG originally thought of this particular idea, but eventually discarded it for this easier to balance system.

You need to move.

Ships with 2 attack dice are already somewhat struggling to stay relevant, and arguably there is also a lot of pressure on the 1-agility ships

Turning the 3 attacks into 4 would just make it worse, and throw off the delicate balance the game is built around

The way you are counting the Falcon would get 8 attack dice as each of its two turrets should have four barrels as they are quad mounts. If you're throwing down 8 dice on an attack things will get very broken very quickly.

Just counting "gun" to determine damage completely ignores the idea that some weapon systems are going to outperform other systems even if they have the same number of "barrels." Don't believe me and still think that one barrel should have the same output no matter what it's on? That is like saying a .22 rimfire deals as much damage as a .50 BMG round which it turn has as much damage as a 5" cannon round which is the same as a shot fired from the 16" diameter barrel off an Iowa class Battleship.

This may be coming down hard but there isn't anything "more realistic" about your suggestion than just using the numbers we've already been given.
