Custom Paint Jobs: Double Firespray and Lambda

By Gwaelna, in X-Wing

My large ship repaints I've done so far (I don't own any YT-1300s, as I play largely imperial).

The Firesprays are the color schemes for the generic bounty hunter and Kath Scarlet, I'm being highly tempted to pick up a fourth firespray and do a Krassis, but I can't decide on what color the back part of his ship actually is or if I'd ever have a use for 4 firesprays (we play 150 points currently, so I have run a triple firespray list).

Fairly certain the Lambda's non-canonical. Just my own little flagship.

Nice repaints. Did you just paint over the existing paint?

Yep, I'm rubbish at stripping models (anyone know a good paint stripper for the plastic ffg uses?) so I just painted over it extra carefully.

Some people use brake fluid, others use 50/50 Simple Green and water.

I used brake fluid on my Tie Interceptor, and I personally don't recommend it (others swear by it).

I'm just going to use Citadel Skull White spray paint primer in future repaints.

Uh, what was your inspiration for the Lambda Shuttle? It made me cry a little when I saw it.

Nice work on the Firespray

That must be the party shuttle. Imperials aren't alway so uptight.

Like I said, it's my flagship: all my pride flags. Let's see how much I can explain without the site's censors x-ing out every other word? ^_^

The outer wings are the well known *** pride flag. I've actually had it suggested to me I scrounge up some more TIEs and do their wings to match as a sort of honor guard.

Folded down, the wings display the blue/pink/white/pink/blue of the transgender pride flag. I thought the two flags being on opposite sides of the wing would work well: related, but also completely different from each other.

The dorsal fin has the pretty unknown asexual/demisexual/gray-a flag (black/gray/white/purple). Get some pretty confused looks over that one.

Overall it's been pretty well received. Though I do live in a fairly (extremely?) liberal town.

As for the paint stripping, I'd never heard of diluting the simple green. Maybe that's been one of my problems.

If you're going for a liberal theme, you might want to remove its weapons and hope your opponent is mesmerized by pretty colors.

Pshaw, it's extremely sad maneuver dial does that all on it's own. So impossible to keep people in the line of fire.

I love the Kath Scarlet paint scheme! Good times!

Were you at Dragon's Lair on Wednesday? That shuttle looks familiar!

Were you at Dragon's Lair on Wednesday? That shuttle looks familiar!

Yep yep...you probably saw it getting slaughtered. Game 1: xwings and falcon take it out in a turn (rolled something like 11/12 hits on the dice...). Game two: bloody hwk swarm outmaneuvers it and it gets off one shot. Time for some flying practice.

While I haven't attempted it with X-Wing minitures in particular I would strongly recommend trying out Dawn Power Dissolver Spray for stripping paint. In all my tests so far it hasn't damaged plastic in any way. I was even able to strip some old Rogue Trader era Space Marine models that are about 30 years old and had a couple layers of gloss paint on them. Around here the only place that carries it is Walmart but it might be different for your area.

Basically all you need to do is spray the model generously with the Power Dissolver, let it sit for 15-20 minutes, scrub it with a toothbrush, and then rinse it off well. Sometimes you might need a few applications but most of the time it takes the paint of on the first try as long as you let it sit long enough. It doesn't dissolve any type of glue I've found so far so be aware that anything under a crust of glue will not be stripped off. Hope that helps :) .

Practice is just the thing! That was me at the next table running Edge of the Empire. I go mostly on Mondays so far, but I've been meaning to check out Thursdays as well for X-Wing at Dragon's Lair. I'd be happy to have a game with you sometime!

I keep trying to work up the nerve to do a Kath Scarlett repaint on one of my Firesprays.

Not a huge fan of the Lambda scheme, tbh, just because it's not terribly thematic... but nothing but respect for the message you're sending with it. :D

I love seeing all of the repaints that players are doing. When Wave 1 re-releases, I may have to do some Squadron X-Wings.

This just makes me want to head out to Dragon's Lair that much more for some game time...
