Force Sense and Pilot (Space)

By imachubchub, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Quick check of the forums couldn't answer this question.

Do you guys allow the benefits of the defensive Control/Strength/Duration upgrades for Force Power: Sense, to be used while piloting in space?

Basically, a Force Sensitive Exile is piloting a starship. Their ship is the target of an attack. Would you let them upgrade the difficulty dice if they have their Sense's ongoing effects up and running?

Thanks.

RAW would suggest "no" since the pilot can't be directly targeted, just the starship that they're in.

I think I'd allow it, it's a pretty common theme in canon. You might want to limit it to Silhouette 4 or less...

I think this was mentioned in one of the order66 episodes were Sam or Jay were present, as something that was possible.

Makes sense to me. I would probably let them use the last upgrade as well. Ep.IV seemed to imply this was what Vader was doing

As long as the player is the pilot, yes, you can allow the defensive upgrade.

Yeah, my question was inspired by the events of Ep.4, particularly Luke during the trench run. I figured he had to be using the Force somehow to avoid Vader's target lock and I thought Force Power Sense might be the way to explain it.

It's canon for Force Sensitives to use danger sense to give their dogfighting skills a major boost, so I don't see why not as long as the players are the ones flying the ship.

I'd certainly allow it. After all, it goes a long ways towards covering why so many Jedi were such expert fighter pilots.

And as Jegergryte noted, you've got two of the game's designers saying it's kosher to allow both of the Control Upgrades to apply in starship combat, with the agreed caveat that Cheapy the Hutt mentioned that the Force-user would have to be the one piloting the ship.

Since I'm playing a Force-Sensitive street rat that's been promoted to pilot of our group's YT-1300, those defensive upgrades from my character's Sense power may just come in handy ;)

Hmm... obviously the defensive upgrade doesn't apply for Force-sensitive gunners-who-aren't-piloting, but then if they go all the way to the offensive upgrade, does that apply to both the pilot (if the pilot would have any starship weapons control) and gunner stations?

I think it would apply only to the player in question, so the pilot could use it with any pilot controlled weaponry, and a gunner could use it at his station. It won't apply to other players' abilities. Same with the defensive version really, it doesn't apply to anyone else's abilities, even if it affects everyone's chances for survival when the ship is shot upon.

I think luke's "brilliant" evasion was more because his stabilizer was not working properly. once R2 fixed it, that is when luke got hit and R2 got blown up. Thankfully before Vader could take another shot Han ruined everything for Vader
