Questions from a newb...

By ShirleyFilms, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I have just stumbled through my first game, but have a few questions. (sorry if these are already answered somewhere, I couldn't find them).

1. If a yellow/stationary monster appears on a gate, what happens when you try and approach that gate? Do you get sucked into the gate? Or do you have to fight/evade the monster first?

2. If a player comes through another world (gate) WITHOUT enough clue tokens to close the gate, can he wait there until another player goes through the gate, and meets him back on the Arkham side with the rest of the tokens needed to close the gate? (assuming that neither have enough to do it alone?)

3. When fighting a boss/Elder, how does the accumulation work? If 3 people are playing, is it EVERY THREE hits takes away ONE of the Elders tokens? And once the three resets (in the middle of a large dice roll, for example), can other hits still be added? For example, If I have a ton of weapons and have 20 dice to roll... and I roll 6 hits... does that remove 2 tokens? Or is my rolling invalid after the first token/reset?

I am sure I have more... but those are the main ones that come to mind. Thanks for any help.

Congrats on your first game!

1) Follow the Phases carefully and most (heh, but not all) timing problems can usually be resolved. In this case, the Movement Phase is still going as you enter the location with the gate so you must fight or evade all monsters there before getting sucked through (i.e., in the following Encounter Phase).

2) Creative idea, but a gate must be closed by a fight or lore skill check and then sealed by clue tokens. Since clue tokens can't be traded, one investigator must have the necessary tokens to seal (and it must be the same investigator who closed the gate since sealing must be done immediately).

3) Keep a running total of all hits and remove a doom token whenever you get a multiple of the number of investigators.

2) if you get really crafty, you may be able to get an investigator over to meet the returning investigator to give him/her an Elder Sign or items that make clues (Old Journal, Research Materials). Just be aware that if the new investigator is on the gate during the Arkham Encounters phase, he has to enter the gate.

Also notice that tomes that need to be read to yield clues can't be used by the person returning from the gate until the next turn, when he actually has the movement points to do so.
