Do you play directly on the tabletop or do you play on some kind of mat like i have seen pictured online?

I play on table. Once I get a mat I will play on the mat on a table.

I bought some black felt that has glitter on it. 1 yard, cut in half. It was on sale so I think I payed $3 total for two playing mats. You can't beat that! And it looks so much better than plain black felt.

also I read somewhere that FFG is coming out with some kind of tiles. what are those and would it be worth it?

And also Gale Force 9 do a range of 36 x 36 space themed mats.

I've got the GF9 mats. They're very nice, some like the space station are a little busy but it's a nice grippy surface.
