....long distance gaming?
Back before many of you were born use to play chess by mail. What kind of logistical nightmare am I creating here?
Would you do this? How would you start?

Vassal
Yep, Skype and Vassel. I've done it a lot for Malifaux during playtesting, works great.
Does a 4' x 8' table count?
I am thinking about getting some of my friends that have moved away into this just to keep up with each other.
We use to have a X-box live night and I think this may be do able. I am thinking each person would play just the core kit to start and buy the same play mat. Each person would set up his or her side (rebel or empire) then set their oppositions side up after they see how their opponents have arranged their fighters.
I think the delicacy of movement would cause variances on the individual boards to the point range arguments would occur:
"I get an extra defense die because I'm at range three."
"No way, it is clearly within two!"
Or
"You hit the asteroid, roll an attack die"
"No I didn't, I just barely missed it!"
Actually, asteroid placement would be difficult to mimic on all the boards, as well as initial ship placement. Vassel really seems like the best alternative even though it eliminates one of the best aspects of the game, the miniatures.
Yep, Vassal is the answer. You can even have up to 6 players, I think.
