Can one run the beginner box with only one PC? If so, what kind of adjustments would you need to make?
Beginner Box with One PC
I thought you had all four players? :/ What happened?
Nothing. Sorry that I gave that impression! I want to run the game for my younger brother IRL.

I'd imagine that it could be run, though the problem is that a single character probably wouldn't possess all the skills necessary to make important checks. Perhaps if you played some of the other characters as NPCs?
I've done it with one player. I had only one person show up to my Edge of the Empire demonstration at the FLGS. Fortunately he was a regular I've RPed with for years so I decided to try my hand at GMing for one for the first time since I was thirteen.
He created a Doctor character using my Beta rulebook and I used Lowhhrick as an NPC to help him get through Escape from Mos Shuuta. I think I kept the first encounter at 4 Gamorrean thugs. I recall making the bartender require a Charm test to reveal info on Trask's ship and the PC failing to obtain the hyperdrive part through similar means. The two of them instead pooled their starting cash together for the negotiated price.
They didn't run into Stormtroopers or the port authority directly; at the time I couldn't find where the info on the Krayt Fang being locked down was revealed to the players and so the obvious direction for my PC was to slip into the hangar through a
service door and trick the guards. I think something went awry because security droids showed up and next thing I recall he and Lowhhrick forced their way aboard and were a double-team fisticuffs match with Trask, eventually subduing him and taking off. I played the TIE chase rather abstract due to unfamiliarity with the rules but it went smoothly with him taking one of I think 2 TIEs.
Lowhhrick help a lot for combat but I played him very low key, leaving decision making to the real PC and merely letting the Wookiee keep him moving along. The occasional description of 'the Wookiee shrugs and growls, asking what can you two do next' summed up most of his actions.
The player liked the system and appreciated the demo. We went on to use that PC and the Krayt Fang in a 4-PC group once the core book came out, running the campaign for nearly a dozen sessons (we're on hiatus right now to try AoR during its beta run). Never did get that upgraded hyperdrive installed on the Krayt Fang...
Edited by UtsanomikoIf you're willing to look over the published adventure beforehand and can work some GM-creativity, you can work out the kinks so that even a team consisting of a single player + NPC can get through it. ![]()
I've done it a couple of times. Fortunately it's pretty easy for a player to run two characters, and the GM can manage an NPC.
