2 pegs or 1?

By Davor, in X-Wing

I am still on the fence with the 2 pegs that FFG uses for X-wing.

I broke one of the pegs, so have to use one peg for one of my ships. I actually think the ships look better on one peg.

Why is there 2 pegs? So it looks higher flying? Since there is no "levels" in X-wing, what is the purpose for 2 pegs?

Also do you think it looks better with one peg? Also what do you prefer?

I prefer two pegs because it keeps the ships further from the table, which is where tokens like Focus and Target Lock go. I find when I play with one peg, I end up knocking my ships around when I reach for the tokens. It's highly annoying, so I put them up on two pegs to keep them out of my way.

One can not fly a stock B-wing with one peg. One can fly a stock A-wing with no pegs.

The multiple pegs are there because some of the models extend beyond the plastic base. Models colliding isn't important, only bases colliding is, so if there's a conflict, one can add or subtract a peg so that the two models are not colliding any more.

1 peg, always means i have spare pegs and that the center of gravity on the mini`s is lower and they are less likely to fall over....and my B-wings ar no longer stock.

I really prefer the look of 1 peg. I've tried 2 pegs (specifically so all my ships match the B-wing) but i think it looks just too weird

2 pegs for me. Maintains immersion, at a glance the ships are not tied to the clutter of the base and tokens.

My bases are weighted so knocking over isn't really a problem.

I've gone from 1 to 4. Just depends on the ship and what looks good. Soon I'll have a 1 peg B-Wing, if I can ever tear myself away from GTA V...

One brass rod...

5 pegs

In my gaming group we use peg hight to help diferentiate ships with different pilots when we don't feel like searching through the oppresivly large bag of number counters. Usualy the a higher pilot skill will be on the higher pegs.

For example: if running Kyle and Jan, Jan would be on 2 pegs, with kyle on 1.

i wish they sold extra base plates and pegs....

Sometimes to avoid my ships interfer with others, I use three pegs, and it gives me a good look, of the ships, greettings.

I prefer one peg. I am going to modify the b wings so they are slanted, i don't mind them straight up but i think they look better at a 45 degree angle.

I mix them up, 1 to 3 pegs. Sometimes it's practical, like if I want to distinguish different pilot skills. Mostly I just like the way it looks. Mostly.

I often put the YT-1300 on three pegs so it's not always colliding with the smaller ships due to its overhang. Otherwise it is generally two pegs for each ship for me.

For me, it depends. It depends on what I'm running at the time. I would also see what my opponent has. If he is using one peg, I would use two. If the match is Rebel v. Rebel (or Imp. v Imp.), it would depend on how things are set up. This is mainly to differentiate the components of the two squads. I prefer using two pegs, myself though.

I tend to use 2 because I like having the ships a bit higher off the table. I also made some astroids out of rock, and those are about 2 peg's high.

My friend likes to mix and match, 1 ship has 1 peg, 1 has 2.

I'll usually height them out by their points. Regular TIE on 1 peg, Interceptor on 2 pegs, Darth on 3 pegs, and so on.

If someone is a Squad Leader or has other special EPS's, i'll make them "higher" as a reminder to myself.

I try to give them varying height whenever possible. It's about the closest i can get it to 3-D...given it's occurring on a 2-D play-space in a virtual 3-D environment. :D

I do this too, for quick differentiation at a glance.

But one simple trick I do with both number counters and target lock tokens is make one smaller bag or compartment with just a few of them, and leave the rest in the big bag.

I tend to keep my number counters 1 through 7 (3 of each) in my box with my TIE Fighters, but when they're not with the models I have a little tiny bag (I think it was the bag one of the dial connectors came in) that holds the smaller quantity of tokens.

Same with target locks, I have one compartment in my storage bin with 4 or 5 target locks, red and blue of each. My reasoning is that I will hardly ever need 6 or 8 target locks in one game, so this makes it easier to sort through and use them.

I think this is a great idea, I'm going to try this myself!

I know I've started popping a pair of target lock tokens on the card of any ship with the action at the start of the game. That way I have them on hand when I need them.. When I'm use them they go back on the card.

I keep one of every tocket available on each card. That way the game is sped up.

I think 2 pegs looks way better in photos than 1 peg and on video it is even more exagerated.
I hate seeing ships with no pegs!

My pregame setup involves distributing to each ship the potential target lock, stress, focus and evade tokens they might need.

In cases of multiple target locks or stress or focus I have the bin nearby so I can grab more if needed.

I keep my number and target lock tokens banded together in the tray so all I have to do is find the number I'm looking for and automatically have the three I need. Same thing with target locks - I have each pair banded together so I just have to grab one set whenever I need one.

Now I have around 9 of most number I have them bagged in 10s.. so 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39. Finding 3 of the same number when there are 9 in the bag is trivial.
