Three Squints and two Dupes vs. three X-Wings

By SmartCookie, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Played an interesting game yesterday.

I had:

3 Alpha Interceptors (3x18) = 54 pts

2 Scimitar Bombers (2x16) = 46

Proton Torpedoes (2x4)

Stealth Devices (2x3)

My opponent had:

Luke Skywalker (28)

R2-D2 (4)

Draw Their Fire (1)

Shield Upgrade (4)

Biggs Darklighter (25)

R2-F2 (3)

Stealth Device (3)

Wedge Antilles (29)

Push the Limit (3)

I sent two Interceptors rushing across the board, out of reach for the X-Wings to take out Biggs as soon as possible.

The two Bombers and final Interceptor closed slowly with the rebel ships.

In the initial exchange I managed to take out Wedge's shields with one torpedo from one of the Bombers and destroy Biggs with my two front running Interceptors. In return I lost one of the Bombers before it could fire its torpedo.

Next I concentrated fire on Wedge and once he was done Luke proved no problem for my surviving three interceptors.

The combined threat of two Bombers with torpedoes and the three attack dice of the Interceptors are fearsome as long as you keep you Interceptors out of the enemy's firing arcs and at least one torpedo hits home.

Well done. That's a tough list to beat. It does look like your opponent could have kept his x-wings in a tighter formation for better focused fire.

Initially he kept them together but as we closed the distance he dropped Biggs back to place him at range three of my Bombers, forcing them to fire at him with their lasers (torps were target locked on Wedge). He managed to force one to do so, he was out of range for the other who promptly took down Wedge's shields.

Then my front running Interceptors pounced on Biggs from his flank and took him down in two turns.

Luke and Wedge flew in nice formation until an asteroid himdered Wedge to k-turn while Luke did.

Asteroids can really screw up the 3 x-wing list. Same thing happened to the guy that took second place in the GenCon tournament. Hit an asteroid on the 2nd turn and never recovered.

Hiding behind the asteroid may have saved his bacon. It's a game of milometers for sure. It was sad to see the final go so lopsided, but that's why most of the top 4 took asteroids out of the equation.

Thanks.

Proton Torps have a range of 2-3, not 1-2. Also, if it had been me, I would have gone after the Squints coming in on the flank first before the Dupes. Average die rolling from the 3 X's, 2 with Focus,Target Locks or both, should splash 1 of the Squints and, if I'm very lucky, the second one as well before they get to shoot. I'm also curious how an asteroid would hinder Wedge from performing a K-turn. The only thing that stops a K-turn is another ship in the final position of the ship doing the maneuver. If Wedge landed on the asteroid he wouldn't get to shoot or take actions but he still would complete the maneuver.

1. Yes the torps are 2-3 (simple typo) but the Bomber had target locked Wedge and Biggs was a viable target, wich means the bomber had to fire at him with its primary weapon.

2. The X-Wing didn't attempt a K-turn since it would have ended up on the asteroid. Instead it movead forward 1, effectively breaking up the formation as the other K-turned to be able to target my ships.

Ah, ok....personally I would've still done the K-turn with Wedge and kept the formation together. Hard to tell from the picture but I think he would have turned in front of the asteroid and not landed on it. If he did land on the rock he would be set up for pursuit of the enemy in the next turn.
