Duplicates, Saves and Attachments

By IINestorII, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello guys!

A friend of mine and I recently started playing this game and after a week or two the questions started to pile up. So I read many of this topics here and the FAQ, but english isn't my native language, our cards are printed in german and so it's hard to search for the right threads. So please forgive me if these questions have been answered befor (many times):

  1. Can a character only be saved in the second step of the action window? For example lets say Ben Stark is chosen to fullfill the claim of a military challenge. I have Maester Aemon in play, but choose not to save Ben in the second step of the action window. Ben gets moribund and as a result in the 4. step his passive ability is triggered and every player shuffles his deadpile back into his deck. Then, in the 5. step, I kneel Maester Aemon to save Ben. He is longer moribund and doesn't leave the play in the 6. step.
  2. Does the same apply to duplicates (can I save a character by discarding his duplicate in the 5. step)?
  3. I assume I can't pull the same trick with an attachment like bodyguard, as I read somewhere that attachments are discarded in the 4. step of the action window, so that bodyguard could not be used in the 5. step to save the character. Am I right?

I am sure I will have more questions in the future, but the killing/saving characters mechanic is really essential to many matches, so if you could tell me if I understood it correctly, it would help a great deal.

Thank you for your time!

1 (and 2). Correct. You have to save in Step 2, or not at all.

3. You'd also need to use Bodyguard in step 2. You can't have a "when killed" ability go off unless the character is actually killed (and not saved).

Okay, thank you !

Hi again! I have some more questions and didn't want to open another thread so I just ask here:

  1. Are Responses like Sansa Starks

Response: After a player plays an attachment on Sansa Stark, that player may draw a card.

    or Dany's Handmaidens

Response: After Daenerys Targyrien or Dany's Handmaiden is killed, choose and discard an attachment from play.

optional and who decides if it is triggered? When an opponent attaches something to Sansa, decides the controlling player of Sansa if the opponent may draw a card? And has the controlling player of Dany's Handmaiden to discard an attachment from play when she is killed, even if there are only his attachments in play, or can he choose to not trigger the ability?
  2. Euron Crow's Eye has the ability

While Euron Crow's Eye is standing, House Greyjoy characters you control gain stealth.

Are the targets of stealth declared befor or after attacking characters are kneeled? Meaning: Can Euron (and characters attacking with him) use their stealth abilities (gained from Eurons passive)? I am pretty sure he can't use stealth when attacking as the kneeling phase comes before the declaring stealth phase, but a friend disagrees and I'd like a third opinion.

  3. Captain Groleo has the ability

Response: After an opponent plays or reveals an attachment, claim 1 power for your House. (Limit 1 per phase.)

Does this include "I'm You Writ Small"

    House Lannister only.

Challenges: Choose a character. Until the end of the phase, that character gains deadly. Then, attach I'm You Writ Small to a House Lannister character (counts as a Boon attachment with the text "Attached character gets +2 STR").

as it seems the lannister player does not really play an attachement, but an event that gets attached. Do I understand this right?

Thanks again !

  1. Responses (like other effects beginning with a bolded timing descriptor) are always optional and only the controller can decide to trigger them (unless explicitly contradicted by the card).

Thanks =)
