After being inspired by some awesome conversions and reprints on this forum I wanted to give try a conversion myself.

I've recently using a list with 2 YT-1300s so wanted to make the difference between each ship a little more obvious.

I saw a really nice conversion moving the cockpit to the centre if the miniature so went with something similar.

I intended to just repaint the place that I filled after moving the cockpit as well as the new position of the cockpit. In the end I decided to go for a full repaint. I tried to create a reasonably worn look for the ship. It's slightly lighter to the stock falcon, again just to make the difference more obvious.

The more conversions I see of this the more I think I could do it.. How did you find the cutting?

Thanks! The cutting was fine, just took a while as I was being very careful. The resin is really quite thick but I was patient and followed the lines.

I enjoyed this conversion and painting the figure so I think it's something I'd like to do again.

I would have liked the new panel to be a little less obvious but I am happy with the overall look of the ship. I'm trying to find images for inspiration for another conversion, I'd quite like to move the cockpit somewhere different and try out some different patterns with the paint.

The old West End Games role playing game had a tramp freighters book. In that book was a ship called the Utaguta, that was always our favorite, and you just built it. Wow.

I would love to say that I've made this conversion to match the ship on purpose but I've just borrowed from other peoples ideas and quite like yellow with the grey for something a bit different. Do you have any images of the ship? The one thing I did change slightly when compared to other conversions was the height of the cockpit. It's a little taller from the main body than what others have done.

I've decided to sell this model and start a new project, I'd like to try to out together a YT-1200 which I think will take a little longer to do but it's something I'd like to try as it's a bit different than just moving the cockpit on the model. I'm a bit nervous about cutting up snigger falcon but I'll just take my time and see what happens., I'll try to post some progress on here for feedback during the build this time.

Looks great! I went with the higher mounted cockpit also. It just makes more sense as it would allow greater visibility around the frontal pylons.

I thought the same. I wasn't sure what to do with the space left with the dish missing but I think it's ok as it is, there's just space for something to be added later.

I could try to put something together, it was a pretty simple conversion to do. There are some progress shots of my YT-1200 conversion that may give you an idea how I did this for now.

Just used a cheap knife from Poundland. The plastic/resin that the miniature is made out of is really thick, it was just making sure I took my time and was careful not to slip with the knife which could take some of the detail off. fortunately the corridor to the cockpit is a great guide for cutting, just keep making cuts down the side and you will eventually get through, just need to be patient.

I think this would be very interesting to see, I think that damage/grime adds character to a ship, also it also hides mistakes. I've not taken as much time as I could have to get my conversions done but I should imagine with some sort of modelling putty it wouldn't be difficult to fill in the damaged parts, would also need to give it a good, clean paintjob.

You would also have to replace all the missing panels as they would be there when it comes off the production line.
