How much have you spent on X-Wing so far?

By zathras23, in X-Wing

I was reading a thread over at DakkaDakka.com where people posted just how much they've spent on X-Wing and other products (tokens, storage etc.) for the game. Here's my list:

What I have on-hand right now:

2 core ($80)
2 X-Wings ($30)
4 TIE Fighters ($60)
3 Y-Wings ($45)
2 TIE advanced ($30)
4 A-Wings ($60)
4 TIE Interceptors ($60)
2 Falcons ($60)
2 Slave-1 ($60)
2 B-Wings, 2 TIE Bombers, 2 HWK-290 & 1 Lambda ($105 due to pre-ordering)
1 Lambda ($30)
Acrylic Templates from CorSec Engineering ($28)
Game Mat ($40)
Plastic Box for Tokens ($3 - yay for Bass Pro Shops)
Pluck Foam Trays for my Army Transporter ($15)
Card Sleeves ($13)

Total: $719

Pre-ordered or bought online and waiting for delivery:

4 Imperial Aces boxed sets ($96 due to pre-ordering)
Acrylic Tokens from Litko ($71)

Total: $167

Planned purchases:

2 TIE Bombers ($60)
Acrylic Templates from CorSec Engineering ($28)
Acrylic Tokens from Applied Perspectives ($20)
P.A.C.K. 432 with custom loadout ($145)

Total: $253

Grand Total: $1139

No sir, I'm not addicted to X-Wing, not at all. :D

In all seriousness however, if you're able to spread out purchases over time, it doesn't hurt the wallet that much. The game has been out for little over a year and what I've spent on it is less than $100 a month. I know people who spend more than $100 a month on coffee in the morning so I don't feel so bad about spending this much money for a game I enjoy playing. Hell I've spent WAY more for my Warhammer 40K Necron army over the years than I have for X-Wing.

Hmm?

1 Core Set $25

3 X-Wing Xpacs $30

6 TIE Fighter Xpacs $60

4 Y-Wing Xpacs $40

4 TIE Advanced Xpacs $40

4 A-Wing Xpacs $40

5 TIE Interceptor Xpacs $50

2 Falcon Xpacs $40

2 Slave 1 Xpacs $40

4 HWK-290 Xpacs $40

4 TIE Bomber Xpacs $40

4 B-Wing Xpacs $40

2 Lambda Xpacs $40

4 Imperial Aces $80 - pre-ordered

GF9 Gamemat $30

Storage tote $10

5 Storage trays $50

Card Sleeves (for everything) $20

So alittle over $700 with the pre-orders (I have never paid retail or higher for anything)......which makes everything I have is equal to about what 1 WH40K army would cost to just buy the unassembled/unpainted models. And before you go shanking me for bringing GW into this. I had 3 40K armies and a WFB army....and thankfully I am 3 years sober!

How much?

"I could almost buy my own ship for that!"

Most of my collection were gifts (birthday, fathers' day, Christmas) so I'm counting the amount spent by the givers.

1X-wing, 1TIE/ad, 3 TIE, 2 Y-wing $5.49

(No I didn't forget a digit. Low prices, ~$7 each, coincided with $50 off for applying for a credit card that I subsequently cancelled)

Core Set $34.92

Slave I and Deck Box $21.15

Millenium Falcon $22.81

Core Set, 2 A-wing, 3 TIE/int $82.50

3 B-Wing, 3 TIE/b, 1 Lambda Shuttle $86.68

$253.55

How much?

"I could almost buy my own ship for that!"

way too much.

3x core
2x X-Wings
2x TIE Fighters
2x Y-Wings
2x TIE advanced
2x A-Wings
3x TIE Interceptors (i won one of these at a tourney)
2x Falcons (a friend won one of these for me at the kessel run event)
2x Slave-1
2x B-Wings, 2 TIE Bombers, 1 HWK-290 & 1 Lambda
1x Lambda

1x Starfield Playmat

2x large Storage Containers

4x sets starwars theme Sleeves

4x sets mini sleeves for upgrades

Future perchases

2x Tie-Bombers (getting 2 more today)

1x Imperial Aces expansion

all this is in New Zealand currency - game stores here typically pay a little more for freight that gets passed on to the customer :(

Let's see

3 starter sets $90

2 X-wings $30

3 Y-wings $45

1 YT-1300 $30

3 A-wings $45

2 TIE $30

3 TIE Advanced $45

3 TIE Interceptors $45

1 Firespray $30

$280 so far, and I haven't bought my wave three yet. I would also like to get another YT-1300 and another Firespray

But let's compare it to another table top miniature game I play... Warhammer. Yeah X-wings comes out at just above free.

I know it sounds like a lot when you add it all up but if I were to do the same thing with my Warhammer I would be sickened, I am sure it is in the thousands. Admittedly I have been collecting Warhammer a lot longer, but let me illustrate my point with the new Dark Elves that will be coming out soon.

I already have a fairly decent Dark Elf army, but with the new release I would need to at least get a new book $50!!!!. If I wanted a unit a witches I would need at least two boxes $60 each for a total of $120. I would also need the Caldron of Blood for $75. We are already at $250 for just updating an army I already have, not even making it much bigger.

In X-wing I have everything and extra to boot. (Just not wave 3 yet) and I spent a little more than it costs to update a singe warhammer army.

Yes I have spent a lot on X-wing, but compared to other miniature games, X-wing is a real bargain. I would also like to point out that the miniatures in X-wing are as good as any mass produced pieces for any miniature game I have ever seen, they are well painted AND I think it is just about the funnest table top game I have ever played

I'll have spent maybee $500-$600 but I've been geting a lot of my stuff when someone else sells out, so my spent to worth ratio is lookin really good....

I have never tallied up a total spent.....quite a bit....but still NO WHERE close to what it takes to start a 40K or WHFB army....and I have been playing both since '99.

I still have huge armies for both and love the game, but due to time constraints with my children, I pretty much only play x-wing, Warmachine/Hordes and 1st Ed. D&D (yeah I am THAT old)......

I do like the skirmish level games from GW and I am sure I will swing back into the big army stuff when the time is right.....

I absolutely am crazy about x-wing.....so I will just keep buying it without a tally!

You have enough for two players and everything needed in the starter box of X-wing...and if two players split the box it's a whopping $25 each.....

To start a WH army of any kind you need the core rules, army book/codex and an army...so $250 give or take...if you get a battle force.battalion boxed set, which will be too few models to really play after half a dozen games.....

I keep buying x-wing models because I WANT to, not because I feel like I NEED to, which I feel is an issue with GW...I don't begrudge anyone making money, but when I started 40K you could get a box of 3 rhinos for $30-ish....now a single rhino is that....

OK, off soap box....

May the Force be with you, always!

2x core

2x xwing

4x TIE

3x Advanced

3x Y-wing

5x A-wing

5x interceptor

2x firespray

1x falcon

4x b-wing

4x bomber

2x shuttle

3x HWK

Most were online purchases so it only comes to about $500

2x core

1x x-wing

1x y-wing

2x a-wing

1x yt-1300

2x b-wing

1x hwk290

4x tie fighters

1x tie advanced

2x tie interceptor

2x firespray

1x tie bomber

1x lambda shuttle

When they re-release wave 1 I will be getting a second y-wing and tie advanced. Still need a second bomber.

So how much have I spent...not enough.

I'll never pay full MSPR but I'll still say plenty and I'm not nearly as bad as some of you.

PS. Herbert West, you need to count the $50 "off" you got as you could have gotten something else with that. I also wonder how many of you are forgetting about either shipping and handling (yey free shipping!) or sales taxes or both. Buying something listed at $19.99 and then paying $7+ on S&H really means you paid $27 for it instead of $20.

StevenO,

I excluded the $50 from my final total because it was a discount offered by the store and the only reason I applied for it was to make that specific purchase. If we're going to start ignoring discounts, we would need to also include the 30-40% off MSRP many only game stores offer as matter of course and that just ignores the original question and becomes a list of what's in fleet. The original question piqued my interest so I actually looked up the purchases as listed on my bank statement because I didn't know how much had actually been spent on my collection.

£363 roughly. :D

Nothing compared to the (approaching) £1000 on Arkham Horror

Yeah, that's why I didn't include price... I just don't want to have an actual figure in my head to feel guilty about. *L* I believe it was Han that said " Never tell me the cost!" or something similar... :P

Well in Euro's I've spent about 120,- a large part of this was used to buy a large lot which gave me a good deal of stuff real cheap.

I've spent £-500 because I compare my hobby spend to someone who goes to football matches.
They spend £20+ per week, so £80 a month or £800+ a year.
I have spend £200-300 on xwing so over all I am up £500

Be like me, compare your spending to others who spend more. That way your spending is justified and controlled.
