Wave 3 distribution woes

By Cilionelle, in X-Wing

Well, I was a little bit disappointed today to find that my F(NS*)LGS is having troubles with their stock levels. Apparently they got less than a tenth of their requested stock and are unable to fill all preorders. This has led them to consider not offering X-wing stock for pre-order since they've had so many difficulties over the three waves.

Is this a world-wide problem, or just one for us Aussies to deal with? And why, after selling out both previous waves in most places, is FFG not upping production to meet demand?

* "not so"... it's a couple of hundred kilometres from me, but it is really friendly!

World wide though I feel USA has an easier time stocking (given Target, local game stores, GameStop, Barnes and Nobles, list goes on....all get stocked it's a matter of just calling in and finding what you need if you didn't preorder.)

I put in pre orders at my Flgs and an online retailer. My Flgs has not got his stock yet but I have the stuff from online. If the Flgs gets what I preordered in stock I would be happy to offload the extra ships I don't need for what it cost me and postage. I will have at least one of each spare if he gets enough stock.

My local doesnt do preorder on xwing because they would never have any stock in otherwise.

The problem is two fold.
1) Distibution and stock issues

2) Stock issues in the past makes many Xwing players panic buy.

pretty much.. when my LGS had their shipment split in half i had to double and triple confirm that they were getting their order in, otherwise i was going to go out and buy the rest of my order right away at a store that i knew had the stock

because i know that if i don't get what i'm looking for right away, i probably won't see more for at least a couple months

Should have preordered online....

Im already done with wave three. Bought a couple at the lgs to support it.

Go to miniature market....they're awesome.

Yup Miniature Market FTW!

I would like to at least say this is not FFGs fault. They sell "X" number of product to a distributor, like Diamond Comic Distributors, who then decide, mainly on the size of the store and how much that store has purchased from them in the past, how much goes to each store. I had a small local comic and gaming store that pretty much was run out of business because Diamond would send them about 1/2 what they ordered because they made sure the larger stores they service got what they ordered.

As a gamer of many years...by that I mean a few decades. I have noticed the trend of smaller gaming and comic shops just can't even touch online stores. So if you want stuff buy it online otherwise get really enthused about the hunt across the land in brick and mortar stores.

i'm not going against what you're saying, just reiterating

everyone that has a local gaming area should and i really do me SHOULD buy their product from the stores that offer up space to allow you to play with friends and fellow gamers alike over buying online.. online stores offer you nothing but cheaper deals

support local stores at all costs because without them, you'd be playing these games exclusively at home or in at a friends place with little to no chance of meeting other people.. yes i know lack of product can be frustrating at times but it should always be your first choice over buying online

so in the end does saving a few measly dollars really help in the long term? everyone should think about this the next time they purchase their product from online stores

and yes i know some of you only have the option of buying online because the nearest store is a long commute away, but you're an exception and this comment is directed to those in areas that have local game store support in their communities but still prefer to buy online instead because they're cheapskates

Yes, FTW, except when they take 2.5 weeks to work out an order fail of epic proportions where they accidentally double charge you, and fail to send out a delivery on an in stock product and you have to go through what amounts to a full week of back and forth with their customer service just to get a friggen update.

Unable to get Tie Fighter, X WIng and Y Wing here locally in Nova Scotia, Canada. Very limited amounts of anything else :(

My local gaming store has a ton of b wings, bombers and shuttles. And a few hwk's. They also have a lot of wave 2 ships. I find it odd that they have such a large supply. But then again there isn't a big group that meets up yo play xwing on the weekend.

Or LGS has TONS of wave 2 and 3 ships, but i went on a crawl for wave 1 that rounded the state...none to be found.

Wow.....I didn't even realize mine had shipped...I got home on Sept 12th and there was my 4 HWKs, 4 B-WIngs, 4 Bombers, and 2 Lambdas I had pre-ordered. And since I had checked my order status that Monday....mine only took a few days at most to get to me.

I agree 100%. If you have a LGS support it. Just don't expect them to have stuff when it comes out, because if they are a new/small shop they will be passed over by their distributor for larger/older shops who have consistantly placed high dollar orders.

amazon is my friend since here in south jersey we have nearly no hobby shops left thanks to wizards

elaborate please?

My FLGS has EVERYTHING except the X-Wing expansion.

it seems there is a massively lopsided distribution. Ah well, hopefully before mid-November.

Wave 3 distribution was shorted from what I was told but certainly seems better than wave 2. I picked up my full pre-order of wave 3 and then some extras.

I have to agree about buying local when possible. I order some of what I want online so I can join in on the fun early. But I always leave at least one of each ship to pick up when my FLGS gets them in. I do occasionally play up there, so I want to make sure they stay in business.
