I've been planning on painting some of my ships, specifically to create the Ralph Mcquarrie blue A-wing, a green squadron A-wing, and a 181st TIE/In. Initially I though I might as well, after all these ship paints had already been portrayed in the released expansions so it's not like they'd revisit them. But with the announcement of Imperial Aces FFG has, in the 181st TIE/In, shown that they will/may release repaints -- even with the old Saber Squadron pilot cards reprinted.

My question, therefore, is should I repaint the A-wings as I had originally planned or bide my time in the hopes they'll release them at some point in the future? I'd hate to buy extra to make the repaints only to have them provided for later since I'd obviously want the expansion's new cards. (In case it isn't obvious, I literally bought an Interceptor to repaint as the 181st the day before the Imperial Aces pack was announced. BAH. FFG is going to be getting my money regardless but I'd like to save some for, you know, food and things.) So thoughts? Paint away, lay away? There is no way of knowing for sure what FFG will do but I'm curious as to other people's thoughts.

Green A -Wings would be cool. go for those imo. im guessing they will release something else for the rebels - hoping for more Y-Wing pilots with pilot skill slot and more x-wing pilots and some new R2 units. That would be very cool. Lets face it, rebels need some more love now that Imperial Aces are in the pipeline, and if you havent noticed yet the new tie-bombers are a very solid addition to the imperials on their own (Lambda Shuttle and HWK-290 have less obvious power and will likely take some time to find their niche in 100pt squads). The rebels saving grace for now is the B-Wing... very powerful but rather expensive compared to the tie-bombers which are rather cheap. Could there be a new rebel ship about to be released?

i'm not sure how good of a miniature painter you are, but odds are you can probably do a better paint job than the quick factory worker paint jobs that come on these ships that are misaligned half of the time anyways

and the way i see it; if you're willing to put in the time to paint them yourself then you clearly have a passion for what your models look like.. i say go for it. what have you got to lose?

I believe that what they're doing with these repaints is to make ships that were less viable before to be on par with others (Royal Guard Title, Hull Upgrade, etc)...so i really expect them to be first focusing on A-wings or Y-wings (and Tie-Advanced eventually) to make them more playable in tournaments (i'd hope). Likewise, i don't think that FFG would release an expansion for Only the imperials and make the rebs wait 6 months to get their "Aces expansion", so I'm willing to bet that they will release a Rebels Aces at about the same time.

I'd advise waiting 3 or 4 weeks to see if they release a preview of what they're doing for rebels. I'm frankly expecting to see the A-wing, but it could be the Y-wing, and it could be both...who knows? But if you aren't going to ever use 6 A-wings or whatever, then i think it's wise to hold off and at least see what's coming out.

I'm not entirely sure about this, The Rebels have 2 large ships coming out beginning of next year, which will have new Pilot cards for the X-Wing in them. It could be that the Imp Aces is to balance for this. We can't know until FFG says something

My hunch is that we'll see official repaints of A-Wings, and if FFG is super cool it'll start with green markings.

If FF are doing A-Wing repaints they will def need some beefier upgrades imo - a title card on a par with the red guard title, something that gives it 3 attack dice but might be situational (like backstabbers ability to attack outside firing arcs).

My group has been arguing respectively about what the rebels would get and we all really hope it will be the rogue squadron ace pilots
