I wish FF release acrylic movement templates and range rulers

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

Sweet, can't wait to see some designs. I like the movement templates quite a bit - if I wind up ordering another at some point I may give them a shot - I convinced Litko to do mine extra custom, so ordered through them. But you can never have too many sets. ^_^

The only thing that kept me from ordering some of APs stuff is that I wasn't a huge fan of the Ion, Shields, or Target Lock designs, and so while some of the others (focus, evade) were well and good they were also the most similar to everyone else's and so it was just easier to order everything at once someplace else.

That said, I'd give them another look if they got tweaked, and I'm definitely ordering a bunch of Elite Skill and Droid ones, because I don't think they had those last time I looked.

The EPT and Droid are only like a week or two old. You should buy a bunch, then he'll let me redesign whatever I want. ;)

I came up with a good idea for a shield re-design. Never seen anything like it. I think you guys will like it. Super thematic.

BTW, just to be clear: I have no financial interest in AP. I just helped a friend with some design. I like cool X-Wing products as much as you guys. If I can make em happen, I will.

Hey I don't care if you do have financial stake in it or not. If the stuff is good, I'll buy it.
I'm excited to see what you come up with for some possible redesigns, and I'm definitely going to order a bunch of droids and EPTs ASAP. Those are something I've gotten spoiled having in Vassal and kept wishing they had in the tabletop game.

There is nothing wrong, I'm just a bit weird about full disclosure. It comes from being a InfoSec consultant. Many different potentially conflicting relationships. Just being abundantly clear so there's no confusion.

I hear you.

I would love me some of those but ordering to Denmark would probably make it way too expensive.

Go to http://www.fantask.dk and search for Applied Perspective.

Well I have been eyeing the applied perspective tokens and templates for a while now and have not pulled the trigger because I do not like the evade or the target locks, I can barely see the numbers on the red ones. I also dont like that I have to paint them myself to be able to see them. Let me know when you do the redesign and Ill be sure to buy a bunch. My cart is full of templates now over 80 bucks.

I had suggested to one of the other template makers that he offer the option to have them come 'pre-painted' and simply tack on an extra couple of bucks (for an entire order, not like per focus token) to do so. That way you increase the profit margin on them slightly by getting a little more out of anybody too lazy to paint and scrape them themselves. :D

I sent him some new designs last night. I have a potentially crazy idea for the target locks that may take some experimentation in acrylic. The design overall is a lot cleaner, numbers are way bigger. I think the new feature is cool, but I want to make sure it works. I also sent over new focus, shield and ion designs.

Sweet, if he approves do we get a peek at them? :D

Maybe... ;) He has to make some tweaks to adjust for the actual laser process.

Well there's concept art.... :D

I would buy one of the droid and EPT tokens, but I don't need anything else. Would he be willing to just throw a couple in an envelope inside of a ziplock bag and ship via regular mail so the shipping prices are egregious?

I'm just a design geek. I gots nothing to do with the actual sale of the tokens.

(see why I post that disclaimer?)

Droid, EPT/Skill, Shield, Focus, Ion

The Shield is based on the control in the cockpit itself. Can't put a ship icon in the middle since it's the same token for all ships, but a lil shield in there works I think, and even looks kinda ship like in a way.

Focus is just a bit more refined.

Ion is just more electrical.

I like them. I don't own any thing like this yet. But after looking over the site I can see the prices aren't too bad for what I'd want. So I'd likely order some, I'm guessing shipping won't be too bad considering I live like 45 min's away from the FFG event center.

I like the Ion design you have there better then the one they currently have, quite a bit better in fact.

The Shield is nice, it's not quite as much of an improvement as the current one, but that's mostly because I don't mind the current one. But given a choice between that one and the current one I'd get yours.

I would re-buy the ion tokens. And a droid/EPT tioken(s) at the same time.

I think I like the shield, although for some reason in general I'm not as big a fan of the shield graphic on shield tokens, weird as that sounds. I do like the front and rear shield bands though, for sure.

The eye wigs me out a bit - I think it's that circle around it. I wouldn't mind seeing no circle and maybe just the eye in the middle a little bigger.

The ion one is a good idea but might be easier to read on the table if the bolts were thicker.

Adam and I have been bouncing design tweaks off eachother. I'm using you guys' feedback. Thanks for that. I made the Ion one bolder. We added a lot of detail to the focus one. I also redrew the eye. The one above was freehand. I built one out of primitive shapes combined together, it looks a lot better. Just cleaner and less "off". For the shield one, can anyone think of something better to put in the middle? An X-Wing seams silly since that's just one ship. The shield seams appropriate. Maybe I'll try a simplified X-Wing and see how it looks. Target locks are coming along, but I think he has to cut a test one to see if the crazy idea will work.

For the shield, really like the layer look. Exactly like the cockpit styles from the games. Why not just put a solid circle in the middle then put the shield layers around the outside. The solid circle is a generic representation for any ship.

You know, I think the simplified X-Wing outline might work fine. Look at the Star Trek Attack Wing stuff - just about everything uses a generic outline of the original Enterprise on the tokens and dice to represent "ship," just because it's such an iconic symbol. It doesn't cause any confusion there between the various factions. I'd have to see a concept, but I think the shield icon you have, with an X-Wing in the middle could potentially be a very clean, clear token.

Found a decent picture. I think something along these lines, but with your front/rear shield arc symbol and a simple X-Wing silhouette in the middle could actually be pretty sweet if done well. It's simple and iconic, and, I mean it is the name of the game... I would put the X-Wing facing 'north,' though, rather than 'west,' but that's personal preference.

This reminds me - I'll have to get some pictures tonight, but I got in some of the new 'upright' Litko templates that glue into little bases. I haven't gotten to try them out on a game mat yet and see how they look, but early review is mixed.

I actually kind of like the evade and barrel roll tokens (they have focus too but I haven't gotten any yet); they're just green, cut to look like those game icons in 3D.

The Critical Hits and Stress tokens I'm not as sure about. I will grant, it's got to be hard to cut acrylic into the shape of an exclamation point - I get that. But rather than figure out some compromise they just took their standard tokens and cut them with a little tab on the bottom to insert into the base.

That seems cool in principle, but the tokens are fairly translucent, they glue into clear plastic bases, and even painting the lettering white, it pops out much better against a dark playing surface than it does standing upright. You can kind of see through the token to the base and through the base to the table, and that seems to make it really hard to read the token text, since they didn't figure out a way to go with a straight icon. Not sure I like the "regular token, but standing up" thing - it seems to just make them hard to read.

I do love the new target locks, on the other hand. (below) I don't mind most of the tokens laying flat on the table - the new Litko ones are at least convincing me that if you're going to just use a regular token, standing it on end does it no favors. But I dig the target locks. They're cut into a cool targety shape, they're bright, they used a smoky base so the numbers stand out more easily. I will definitely be using these, if nothing else.TargetLocks_zps8cb53455.jpg

They meant the TIE Swarm's pilots, which is still incorrect. Howlrunner is from the TIE Expansion and Wedge is from the X-Wing Expansion.

Backstabber is also from the expansion. The only named TIE pilots in the core set are Dark Curse, Mauler Mithel, and NIght Beast

i have the litko templates on order personalized even I like their product a little better from what I am seeing on the web.

However If you get those approved from ap I will get a set or two!! I love the elite pilot and droid tokens also love the new design for the ion token. Am still out on the focus token I agree with one of the other posters that circle looks weird around the eye.
