Upgrade cards

Will there ever be a way maybe in the future to purchase just the upgrade cards? I mean I understand that its probably FFGs strategy to make people buy ships to get cards we want. But stil...

There's been nothing hinted at that they'll do that. But a couple cases now of ships released with new cards, like the Transport and the Imp Aces set.

So it seems a card pack seems unlikely.

Myself i'd love to see them come out with a wave 1, wave 2 and wave 3 card set. A box with say 2-3 copies of every card for each wave. I know myself I'll never buy more Falcons just for the sake of the cards that come with it. I'd buy a card set though.

I'd love to get just 3 proximity mine tokens...

but upgrade cards, yes i'd buy that too

Whether we like it or not, upgrades inclusion is obviously a way to broaden the purchase base for the packs they choose to put out, motivating people to pick up ships they might not want, or more ships than they might typically want. The game seems to be doing spectacularly well with that model so far, so even if we don't love it I don't see any real pressure for them to change it.

The Imperial Aces set including Push the Limit points to new expansions/reprints spreading the card selection around a bit, but I honestly wouldn't expect to see much more than that.

Or you could just make your own cards...

Works for me.

That's fine so long as you aren't playing in Organized Play events but if you want to play in leagues or tournaments, you must have the real cards.

I agree. In fact there has been realitively very, very few comments about 'FFG greed' by adding upgrades via model packs. If you saw more outcry about the practice then perhaps they'd consider it.

But so far 98% of the comments about say the Imperial Aces set has been positive, so I don't see FFG changing things at this point.

Yeah... I'd get the Imperial Aces either way.

Yeah... I'd get the Imperial Aces either way.

I'm not sure if I'm a good example or not...

But when I first saw the Imperial Aces pack I was going to pass on it. Sure they look nice, but I already have 4 Tie/In's and don't really need more. If I wanted 181st ships I could just paint the blood stripe myself.

But when I saw the cards that come with that set I honestly thought "Shut up and take my money!"

Again not sure if I'm typical or not, but I know I'm not the only one who is going to buy the Imp Aces set mostly for the sake of the cards.

That is both part of my problem and the reason I got into X-Wing. I can't paint without ruining the models  .

I'll see your Imperial Aces and raise you a second Lambda.

I purchased 2 lambda's for the cards. It is still a relatively cheap hobby and one of the best mini games I've played in years. It has completely replaced my GW games.

I can understand tournaments requiring FFG ships and manuever and range sticks, but cards? Don't see how that would be necessary. Other than damage, there's no hidden info that proxies would ruin, right? They're not going to require official play matts are they? or shield chits? or target locks?

Non-unique cards should be allowed to be proxied with the requirement that you have at least one of them, but I suppose that the balance of cards is limiting on purpose...

The no card proxies is written into the tournament rules quite clearly. FFG wants people to buy their products instead of printing pictures of them. Why is that so hard to understand? Want to use. 6 Stealth devices in a tournament? Buy 3 Firesprays or make a different list.

TBH if you have 'friends' this should really never be an issue.. " OH your going as Rebels to this tournament, mind if I borrow some Stealth Devices for my Imperials."

This is very true as well. All my cards are sleeved and I have no issue with loaning them out to other members of my group if they need to borrow some.

Are prox mines covered under no proxy rule it's nit a card or template

Proximity Mines are an upgrade card.

I meant the actual mine you leave behind not the card
