new player help

By SithAssassin75, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Strategy

I am going to purchase the game tomorrow. I am curious as to what to buy without breaking the bank right away. 2 core sets? 2 core sets and an expansion? 1 core set and 2 expansions? I could really use some advice please. I want to learn, but be competitive as I do it.

I think the game is reaching a point that you may not need 2 copies of the core set. As a new player trying to keep the initial cost smaller, I would suggest 1 core set and 2 copies of the Edge of Darkness box set. You are looking at $100 regular retail there, but it will get you enough cards to build some fairly competative decks. After that, I would start in on the current Force pack set, and start at the beginning. They do build on themselves. As for a second core set, I find I still use doubles of the objective sets. but I would leave that up to you and personal choice, since it is the most expensive of the sets.

Thanks! I was trying not break the bank right away. This helps a bunch!

For pure competitiveness: Core set x2 and Edge of Darkness x2 are the most important current purchases.

For ability to build a variety of decks: Core x1, Edge of Darkness x1, and then force packs as you can afford. You'll still be able to field some competitive decks this way, but also have more options.

You can get the core set for $30 on Amazon and the Edge of Darkness for $20 on Amazon, but that's also up to you. Depending on your budget, Dbmeboy's post is good. I wanted a variety of decks, so I gotten one of each, and I'm still not convince about a second core set yet. Maybe one day I might, I just don't know yet. I'm just focusing on everything that's coming out right now. Hope this helps. =)

A further bit of advice is to scour for folks leaving the game. You might find that an inexpensive solution.
