Misaligned B-Wings

By Vagabond Nomad, in X-Wing

Maybe when you get your B-Wings it'll be clearer to you.

I was suggesting that you drill out the messed up pin and set your own pin into the hole.

:)

Ah - ok. Now I see :) Well, I wish I had the tools and skills to do that. Unfortunately I don't. But if you happen to attempt this, I'd be curious in seeing the result.

Cool, I will be posting a lot next month.

I went with the easy fix.

By the way, is this 1MM or 2MM dia brass rod?

2mm I think, that seems to be what it measures at

Cool, because when I put the calipers to my 1MM rod it looked a bit to small, but I wanted to ask to be sure.

I've found a 2mm magnet works OK for most fighters, they will swivel if you knock them, but you can pick up by the stem and move fine. Due to the weight of the Bombers Engines and the fact it's off center I use 5mm magnets at the top of the stem for the Bomber. The same with the B-Wing to stop it swiveling. At the base I use 5mm magnets as it gives a nice solid connection.

Really need to get photos of the Bombers. This week work has been manic, I've only managed to get 1 Bomber Painted and the other is in pieces with only the central pods finished.

Both of my B-wings are slightly off, not quite as much as the OP's photo. One of my opponents also used a B-wing and his was about the exact same as mine. It certainly didn't affect gameplay though. Even if I had ones as crooked I can't imagine it affecting the game. I'm normally paying close attention to the bases and firing arcs.

I really like the magnet idea though. I think they look so much cooler when they are turned in the attack position or even at different angles, especially if you had multiples out there together.

We're all different. I buy these ships for two reasons: (1) to play the X-Wing game, and (2) because I love the way they look and display them. For me, both reasons are intertwined, and it's a big deal when they don't face the correct direction. Especially because I think we can all agree that FFG intended for the ships to face forward, not off to the side.

In any event, it's a problem for me.

It's just a cosmetic thing, but I wonder if this might look better if your copper stand was painted silver or black? For me, the copper color kind of clashes with the rest of the ship. But otherwise, an interesting modification.

Here is my misaligned B-Wing. I tried putting it on a bunch of different pegs and stands to see if that would "fix" it. But the problem appears to be in the peg mount attached to the back of the engines as everyone else has stated.

As to the statements that it shouldnt effect gameplay, it actually causes some annoyance on the battlefield when that laser cannon on the left collides with nearby ships models a bit sooner (it has already happened once with a tie bomber). It causes the ships to be offset a few milimeters more than they should have if the model was aligned straight.

Not a huge deal but combined with the OCD problem I have with how it looks, I am definitely dissapointed.

Yeah I shouldn't project my experience into this as your (and other) B-wings are clearly worse than mine. I guess if I were in your shoes I would be dissapointed too and wanting some resolution.

One takeaway I had from the FFG response was that they didn't say they weren't going to doing anything about your ship but only that they needed more time to investigate, which is probably a fairly reasonable thing for the moment, given the circumstances. Hopefully they do indeed try to correct the issue. If I were in your shoes I would probably follow up around 1 week from the date of their response and cordially inquire as to if they have determined the problem. You can also let them know that nudging doesn't help the issue (as that seems to be the case).

My guess is that they need to find out how wide spread the issue is before determining their course of action.

That's terrible! They didn't even give you the right base token to go with a B-wing!!!!

Hey a friend of mine just came over. He had a problem like mine. He actually said "I used pin vice inside the elbow to removed an extra piece of plastic. He said "After he removed the plastic from the inside the ship was straight" I just saw his ship and yes it did work.

So maybe it's a plastic piece inside the back of the b-wing that is stopping this. Interesting indeed.

I cut mine off and glued it back on correctly.

Yep - that's exactly how I feel.

Can you get your friend to post instructions and pictures of the part that he modified? I'd especially be interested in seeing the inside of the peg.

Easy fix: Cut the flight stand at the base of the engines, then lightly sand the existing flight stand to be level and add in a magnet. Your Bwing will then be straight and rotate freely as it should!

On one of my bombers the mount is backwards. I really doesn't make a lot of difference but the base with the > is facing the wrong way. Is this something you'd bother fixing. I'm thinking like my B-Wings it isn't that big of a deal.

When you put the card on the base you mostly can't tell anyway.

My 2 B-wings had the same problem, Both were misaligned.so i went for the easiest fix i could think of, i simply shaved a very small peace of plastic from the left side of the peg, this allowed the j-peg to sit in the right position,

I then cut the cockpit of and repositioned the fighter as in the pics above... :)

Does the ship stay very stable on the stand (i.e., not move around from side-to-side when repositioning the ship during gameplay)?

if you do it right, I.E. just shave a very small bit of.....no more than a scrap, yes their is a little lateral movement, but the peg should remain tight enough that it will not move while handling the mini

Okay, I want to see HOW that cockpit rotates and the ship can mount at any angle. I read the description, but I still don't get what you did.

Very cool!

The Way I've done it is recess a 3mm magnet into the recess between the engines, you may need to trim a little bit off the inside of the engine nozels to make it fit. file the elbow down so it's got a nice flat surface and glue another magnet to the end of that where it would be going into the B-Wing. Make sure you get the polarity the right way round or else you'll just end up shooting your B-Wing across the room.

B-Wing-WIP-Parts-2.jpg

The Cockpit is a bit more difficult, you need to slice it of with a sharp knife, just where it meets the circular housing. Then you need to drill a hole in each piece right in the center, large enough to mount a magnet in each piece.
