Hi everyone,
I`ve literally only played one game of the EOE system (bought the books, GM screen and got an R2 emulator on my phone), and I`m loving the simplicity and straight forwardness of it all. I thought I would be bored after half an hour but all the little boosts and setbacks really make for a dynamic game, best part is it encourages my players come up with explainations for their boosts and failures, so I`m not constantly saying "Ummm, you slipped on some bantha poodoo."
After going over the rules multiple times I can see that it seems very modifiable. Even the specializations can be reworded for work for several other sci-fi settings. The two that come to mind first are Mass Effect and Alternity/Stardrive. If you have not played either of these I would suggest them. They are fun for anyone who likes heavy sci-fi. Mass Effect is for the Xbox and Alternity is a TSR roleplaying game.
I played a ton of Alternity and tried desperately to retool it to make it work for starwars (and in my opinion failed). Alternity to me is deeply flawed and I was unable to have fun most the time because even my high level (12th?) character was still running below a 20% success rate at half the **** games basic skill checks. But I loved the setting, humanity has flung itself to the stars, blown each other up (twice), and is now poised to expand again. All the science and real world terminology was great. So I decided that I would take the best from both. The beautifully smooth system of EOE and combine it with the hard facts and real world terminology from Alternity.
AND ITS WORKING! Alternity definately has a much wider selection of equipment, weapons, armor as it ecompasses a whole 4500 years of human developement from the stone age to the energy age but its easier to combine than I had originally thought.
Anyways, I wanted to hear thoughts from anyone who played Alternity as well as any possible issues people may see with creating a Mass Effect setting. Aside from the obvious of being sued into the stone age by EA. You will definately need the Alternity books (player handbook and GM guide) if you want to playtest as I`m not freaking copying 600 pages of material and adjusting every paragraph for EOE.
Thoughts? Anyone want to playtest?
