Kyle, Garven, and Ibtisam

By Drakhan Valane, in X-Wing

Has anyone tried this list?

Kyle in the Moldy Crow with a Recon Specialist and an Ion turret (32)

Garven (26)

Ibtisam with Push the Limit, Fire Control System, and a Heavy Laser Cannon (40)

If I'm not mistaken, I ran Kyle with recon, moldy crow title, and blaster turret; Ibtisam with advanced proton torpedoes and PTL; and Garven with R2D2.

Played twice so far and it rocked both times. Nothing like everyone having a ton of focuses to throw around. And turn 2 killed a full Firespray.

I actually think you would not really need Moldy crow there since you hand one focus out and use one every turn... Okay you could save them up but thats difficult later on in the game.

I would run Wedge with this and cut a little back on equioment. You lose one focus per turn but you gain a second really big threat besides Ibtisam.

Well you'd probably bank four focus before combat begins and you might not need to burn one on offense every turn with ion turret if you don't get any eyeballs. It can make Kyle hell to kill and give some leway with crashing or doing reds.

I might play around with Ibtisam's build so you have points for an astromech, mod, or even a torpedo on Garven. With Kyle around he can get away with the one turn of target locking needed to get a torp off without wasting his ability and as Force stated, Ib has a huge target on her head with that many points.

Seems like there are a lot of Kyle+Garven lists, and the last bit being personal preference, kinda like HSF lists. I label my versions KyGar, but they probably need a better name. Something movie related, like SoT, for Stay on Target, for their ability to generate and hand out focus.

I fall in the Wedge camp instead of Garvin to add extra threat and limit the bit target on Ibti. I've been using Ors instead of Kyle for the extra attack die, which I think I like more than Kyle.

I find that FCS doesn't help PTL Ibby much. She already only has 3 possible actions, making her focus and Barrel Roll every turn so she gets her defensive dice can be resrtrictive. I like the extra focus available to her, but I'd scrap Moldy Crow and add Advanced Sensors or give Garven an Astromech.

Otherwise fun. I run a very similar build with 4 agility Biggs instead of Garven because 4 Agility Biggs with a focus can take a lot of fire from anything not Han Shot first or wielding some kind of cannon.

Recently I ran this squad:

Focus Group
Kyle Katarn : Adrenaline Rush, Blaster Turret, Recon Specialist, Moldy Crow
Ibtisam: Sensor Jammer, Autoblaster, Elusiveness
Garven Dreis: R2-F3

I like this squad alot. They all have the same pilot skill, so you can take their actions in any order you like. passing focus off to those who need when they need it. They are also easy to keep within range of each other as their dials are fairly similar ( in comparison to trying to keep TIE's within range of the lambda).

I found that sensor jammer and elsivness are almost must haves when flying Ibtisam, as they make her much more survivable. She took a concussion missle, and two cluster missles (with the cluster missles getting rerolls from cpt. Jonas) and only lost 3 shields. After that salvo my opponent decided that Ibtisam was no longer their primary target as she was much harder to hit than either Garven or kyle dispite only having 1 defense die.

Likewise, the blaster turret seems to be a must have when flying kyle ( Or an ion turret) in order to make him a legitimate threat to take down oposing ships.

In the future i would probably not take R2-F3, as i didn't use it very often (usually i took a focus action). nor did i ever end up using kyle's adreniline rush, though it seems like a good 1 point insurance policy. Additionaly, i'm not entiery sold on the autoblaster, although my opponent was very hesitant to get any where near range 1 of ibtisam, so there is that. Not that anyone should ever want to be within range 1 of a B-wing, but it did help to make him a bit more predictable.

Just a few of my observations.
