Um so im new I got a few books im reading through. But im getting the beginner box cuz me and a few people I know who would wanna play have never played these before. But lets say I only have one person to play with and me...... is it weird or hard or improbable to just have 2 people playing?
sooo im new hi everyone
It won't be hard or improbable, but it may not be as much fun as you hope. I would absolutely try to find at least one more player.
I played it through with only my son as player. He operated two characters and I handled the droid and the Wookiee, and it was fine. It makes for a more dynamic game with 2+ players though.
It's totally playable with just two people. You can either play with 1gm+1player in a solo campaign, or help him out by controlling a few characters of your own. Whoever is the GM is probably more invested into the game, so I suggest that person take control of 2 chars, the player takes control of 1 or 2 chars (whatever they prefer), and play the beginner box from there.
If you're new, the most effective advice I can give you is to play or watch under a few random GameMasters... Preferably Star Wars Edge of the Empire, possibly by playing online. I think there are a few streams up of people playing actually. Being a GM is a very unique experience, and while you're free to "play god" your own way, it's best to see what other people do first to get a hang of things. IMO the rules don't really cover this; for instance they put so much emphasis on how much the ships cost and to repair, but in some cases you might just justify giving the players a free ship.

Do you have any game shops around? That's an easy resource to utilize to go looking for players. Usually these places have a bulletin board where players and GMs post that they are looking for a group.
If not, did you buy your game at book store? Might consider going back with a cup of coffee and just hand around the section that sells the Edge of the Empire books. Sit down and read from one of their copies. Who knows someone might come and pull the book off the shelf. Then you can swoop in and pick their brain.
Never underestimate Craigslist of meetup.com. Yes, these places, especially craigslist, have some sketchy members, but it could be worth it.
Where do you live? I've seen more than one thread about people looking for players in "x-town USA" or some part of the UK.
With the beginner box, it's not so weird...almost everything is encoded, with little GM fiat required so as long you are willing to stay on the rails of the adventure with your characters ![]()
So, you two can play characters and let the book guide you, and for encounters with NPCs each of you can roll or flip a coin or whatever for who controls & roleplays the NPCs.
It's a different experience, but it works.
Edited by awayputurwpnIts doable, but its a social game try and find more people. If I had to run a game with only one player I would run a bounty hunter type game or force user exile. I think those lend to a solo player story.
Hello, I'm pretty new as well. I was chosen as the group gm for my obsessive knowledge over the EU. I figure a one or two person adventure might be pretty fun. I figure it would leave you, as gm, to create a few very memorable npcs for the player or players to remember.
It would be a nice change from the group of six that I was somehow talked in to game mastering for...
