I love star wars and so this has been something awesome me and some friends can play. My main issue is no one wants to be gm and I own all the stuff so I don't mind but I would like to play as well. So lets say I make my guy a pilot and kinda secondary/background is there a way I can maybe add things to the story to help get his exp up while everyone else is questing that way I dont step on anyones toes?

My gaming group is planning to rotate GM duties. To add incentive, the GM's character is included as an NPC that gains xp along with the players, including a 25% bonus to the base amount. In our first adventure, the base xp was 20xp, so the GM received 25xp.

Why not try to work out a GM-swapping deal? Like, you run the first couple sessions, and then have someone else on the hopper with and adventure (give them a module you haven't read). Since everyone's new to RPing, you could make a pact to be "nice" to the new GM and try not to go off the rails for his/her first GM session :) and especially no rules-lawyering. Nothing kills a new GM faster than getting rules-lawyered by a more experienced player.

This system is so easy to GM, so I suggest you dive right in. Build your character, have him ready to go when someone else GMs, and just keep him current with the XP of the rest of the group. Whoever GMs also gets 15 - 20 XP (or however much you would normally give out) for his/her character, and just have the current GM's PC either sit the session out or play a very minor role in the current adventure.

:)

Incentive, I really like that idea. I think I'll run with that for my home group. Thanks verdantsf!

I've lived through both sides of this. I've been in groups where everyone wanted to GM. (which usually ended up being power struggle) and games where no one wanted to GM.

There are a few other discussions about rotating GMs, and having GM played characters on adventures.

I've played in a group similar to verdantsf, where a GM's character earns XP along with the others. Typically, this doesn't need to be on the adventure itself, but the character can be assumed to be adventuring separately.

You will still be left with the issue of being consistently stuck as GM. I have the same issue. I find inspiration for adventures just about everywhere, and there isn't always time to get them all played. So I end up GMing most of our games. But I do want to play as my own character from time to time. Usually the players sucker me in with flattery, "your stories are always so interesting." (ummm, that's because I rip them off from comics, movies, books, etc.) but I digress.

Depending on your group, there are a few non-game ways to encourage others to take turns, if you can get the group to agree. One system I've seen work is bribery, ie. whoever is GM does not have to pitch in for pizza/beverage. I have also given some additional focus on a particular player character because that player takes a good share of turns as GM.

What do you mean by incentive? Like the players get an extra exp boost or my npc me? Most of my group is new to like this is our first rp so ya

The added xp for the GM's character is the incentive. Even the most GM role-averse players tend to perk their ears up when they hear "extra xp" for GM'ing ;) .

Ohh I got ya. Ya, I see where youre coming from
