career specialization

Can I take a career spec from eote and mix it with a spec from aor

Yes, assuming its not the same Specialization. You can't double up on the same Specialization even if they come from different Careers.

Yea u figured you couldn't double up I wanted to make a spy/gadgeteer

You still need to take your first specialization from your career, After that, you can pay 30XP to add Gadgeteer to your character.

Wait what? AoR has new careers that use existing specializations?

I believe Pilot is one specialization in EotE that is also found in AoR.

So, AoR specifically says you can't take a specialization just cause the names match? I can understand that it wouldn't be worth it, but not sure why it would be explicitly forbidden.

It is forbidden because it otherwise allows you to advance certain ranked Talents too quickly, especially as the non-ranked Talents have already been purchased and thus become 'skips'.

Not because the names match, because they are the same. Much like you can not take some talents unless they are ranked, you can not take duplicate specs. If you already have the pilot spec from your smuggler career, you can not take it again from the ace career.

MouthyMerc is right, The talent trees are identical. I believe the career skills vary, but that probably reflects the challenges and demands of the setting.

The developers have said that they wanted people to be able to be a pilot character in AoE and also a pilot character in EotE. The only way they can do that without the character having the ability to become a 'double pilot' was to just use the same specialization. It means that an Ace pilot and a smuggler pilot are effectively as good as each other when it comes to piloting without allowing the possibility of having a munchkin ace pilot with extra pilot being better than both.

If you are the best pilot possible in EOTE or AOE it doesnt really make sense that you can get that much more significantly better (effectively doubling every ranked talent and letting you bypass the rest since you already have them)
