Austin Tournament - October 12

By LunaticPathos, in X-Wing Organized Play

Hey folks,

Dragon's Lair Comics & Fantasy in Austin, TX will be running a second tournament with the Season 2 prize kit on Saturday, October 12th, at 6:00 pm. From a vote at the last tournament, we'll be using a slightly different format.

The October tournament for Star Wars X-Wing will be a team tournament. Teams must be composed on a single faction, but abilities will work as though a team is one player. Teams should field 150 points total, and do not need to split it evenly, but it should be roughly equivalent, ships used allowing.

Rounds will be longer to account for the higher points total, but of course, we'll need less rounds since we'll have fewer teams.

Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,

Jeffrey Alfaro

This event is coming up next weekend. Any takers? Any ideas as to what we should do for next month? Back to regular rules or a mission or something? Diff. point totals?

I assume that uniques cannot be duplicated in a team?

I heard there might be a big base limitation, is that true?

I am planning on attending with my son.

Yeah, I'd say no unique duplication. Basically you are one player with a 150 pt. list, you're just divvying it up to fly it. I don't think there'd be any reason to restrict large ships, and no one brought it up last time when we were discussing what to play this month, so I don't see any reason why there'd be sucha restriction.

What happens if we want to attend, but aren't able to square away a partner?

Oops, just saw this doesn't start until 6pm. We won't be able to make it.

Sorry to hear the RealGenius. I'll see if it would help if we did this earlier in the day, when planning the event for November. I'll check with the folks who show up tomorrow. Anyone else care to chime in as to whether earlier in the day would help them out?

Regarding odd-men out for teams, I think we'll probably have a few folks show up without a partner and we can team up then. I'll bring my stuff in case there's still an odd-man out and help out, though I may have to duck out and do some work related task now and then since I'll be on the clock, but it should work out okay. Provided the opponent doesn't mind just letting the odd person run those ships for a moment while I'm helping with a weird transaction or what-have-you.

Thanks,

Jeff

How long do the tournaments last?

I also was not able to attend because it was in the evening. A couple of weeks ago I had a great time at a tournament at Whose Turn Is It? which started at 1pm.

Personally I'm more interested in tournaments that follow the standard rules, I don't have much interest in playing 150 pts or teams right now, to be honest.

The 8 man tournament we ran last month ended up taking about 4 hours all told.

Only 1 person showed up last night, but I think that was due to ACL/OU/rain/etc. Think I'll go back to standard tournament for next month, which will be on the 3rd Saturday. I can move it to afternoon if that's what people prefer, but so far only a few people have expressed a preference at it was 50/50.

I definitely prefer afternoon; evening makes it a non-starter for me.

I know this last week also had a big group traveling for the 40k tournament in Colorado.
