The first mission

By Cryxx, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

So, this weekend we'll have our first real game session, which will be an allnighter (which basicly means we'll be playing for at least 9-10 hours) and I want to start it all off with a seemingly easy currier mission.

The mission the group gets is simple: go to a town on a certain planet and pick up a former acolyte of the Inquisitor, the acolyte in question was detainted for heresy and is to be brought back to the Inquisitor..

Ofcause, this being dark heresy and me being me, it isn't quite this easy and something happens ofcause, question is, what? now I have some ideas: first: the acolyte has escaped and now the team has to hunt him down and capture him alive.

Second: The acolyte have stolen/found an eldar soulstone and a group of rangers have been sent out to recover it, and ofcause the team gets tangled up in this, but how will they solve the problem?

Third: (and this is the one I'm leaning more towards) it turns out that town is struck by a plague, but no ordinary plague, this one turns the people who die into...yes, you guess it, plague zombies...prepare for dawn of the dead anno 40.000!

So, any suggestions as to which one to run with the group? so far we have four in the group, three of em played an intro game with me a few weeks ago but other than that only one have played DH before, one have played vampire/D&D before and two of em have never before played any RPG.

What if you combined 1 and 3 so they have to chase the prisoner through a zombie infested town...perhaps the prisoner is the cause of the plague?...do they capture him and take him back as they've been asked to? Kill him for what he did? Or force him to fix it before doing one the previous suggestions? How do they plan to get out of the town? I mean any space port has been over run...perhaps there's a guard post nearby and if they can grab one of the vehicles littered around the town they can get there. Will the guard trust them though? Sorry lots of ideas...I can imagine it being quite cinematic in places, especially when they capture the guy.

You said he's been "detainted from heresy" do you mean he repented? I think the general concensus or view on that sort of thing in the imperium is that once a heretic always a heretic...though perhaps the inquisitor wants to question/interrogate him before he is executed.

Well, to be honest the thing with the former acolyte wasnt thought through, I just wanted them to go on a standard currier mission that goes wrong, I did consider having him being brought because of him using xeno tech or some such.

The idea of him escaping while theres the infection isnt bad, might consider that.

dude the first ideas a good one you could make it that the acolyte dude ran into like a icsolated part of the city thats full of mutants and such
