Buying a 2nd Core Set?

By altaine, in Star Wars: The Card Game

I'm new to the game. Haven't actually gotten to play yet (I ordered a core set but mistakenly put it on the same order as Pre Order stuff so it's not getting here for a week or two). I've been reading lots about the game and have been looking over the spoilers on another site.

I've seen lots of posts with people saying you should buy a second core set so that you have more Jedi/Sith stuff. I'm probably only going to be playing with my wife at home, so my question is, since I'm really eager to get the game and start playing would it be worth it to go up to my LGS and get a core set and start playing even though I've got another core set coming in a week or two?

Thanks in advance for any replys

Depends on how many options for deck building you want. The more you have of a card in your deck, the more of a chance to pull it. If you just had 1 copy of Luke, Vader, Palpatine, etc you may end up never finding that Unit the entire game.

I bought 2 copies of the Core Set back in March and I think that it was the best idea to start with that.

I would very much suggest just getting one for the time being. If it's just you and your wife at the moment, then you should get plenty of enjoyment from the Core set while you learn the basics.

You can pick up the 2nd any time you want.

If you plan to play competitively, then you absolutely need a second core set. But, until you learn the game, if you are just playing at home with family or friends, you don't need a second core set.

I agree with this assesment. If your set is the only set you and your wife/friends will be playing with, then the playing field is even. I mean if you as light side only get to pull 1 Luke from your deck, your wife as dark side only gets to pull 1 Vader since you are sharing the same core. If your wife or friends start building their own game sets to play against you and start getting more competitive, you may want to get that 2nd core.

That being said i know what its like to have to wait for your order to arrive in the mail and I'm sure the anticipation is killing you. I spent the week i was waiting for my 1st order (not long ago) reading and re-reading the rules and faqs, watching the tutorial over and over, reading all of the News articles and examining card texts and looking through the forums. Its hard to wait for a great game like this once you make the decision to buy in. So i don't think anyone would fault you if you went out and bought your 2nd/1st core today so you could start playing ASAP. Have fun

Yeaaah I did just about the same when I learned about the game. Watched the Tutorial from the folks at TCG several times as well as absorbed any other information I could about the game before it arrived.

One core set is already a lot of fun, second core just makes your decks more consistent which is important for tournament play.

Have fun with the game
