Preorder availability?

By R22, in X-Wing

Just curious. Why is it that some stores have preorders up, like MM, and other stores don't? Is it that they are simply assuming or do they actually make arrangements sooner? Any store owners know?

As a consumer it kind of unnerves me because I'd like to preorder quickly but am I throwing money at a company that is just cashing in early? What if they assume they have more than they do and I end up messing out? Just curious as to the logistics since some stores do it and others don't when it seems like everybody would for the easy early money.

Have you had a bad experience with preorders from these places before? I have only been notified that my preordered Wave 3 stuff from MM has been sent and I live overseas. They do offer a good discounted rate (matched by other places like CoolStuffInc). I would normally be happy to wait if a local store had these or was going to get them but I don't have that luxury. The fact that these models "sell like hot cakes" does encourage preordering. I would really like to see a release schedule for other expected expansions so I could combine a larger preorder together. This Aces Pack looks awesome but how long do we have to wait to see the Rebel one?

The Rebel Aces pack will probably be released at the same time as the Imp ones. They're announcing them separately to keep the drool flowing.

Seems like good marketing to me. As for the pre-orders, some shops have different distributors. They are probably certain they will get "x" of a product, so they opened their pre-order stock early. I see from another thread that this has caused trouble before.

They likely have a deal with their distributor, however their distributor doesn't really have the logistics of how many they are guaranteed yet. Saying that MM only has 500 preorders listed which isn't a lot. What they routinely do is up the preorder amount when they can confirm more supply from their distributor.

Oh blessed drool. Need more release info, my drool is beginning to dry up.

We preorder from multiple suppliers, so our risk of over-selling is minimized. We also do not pre-sell more than a conservative fraction of what we have ordered, in case of the (expected) allocation. As to other retailers not having the pre-orders up as fast, sometimes we get the information early and sometimes (often actually) we don't and do not have confirmed numbers to list. This time we were able to get our numbers in and enough confirmed to pre-sell that many units.

I'm just curious because, for example, Team Covenant's website has the transport and Tantive IV for preorder. Given the fast sell rate and high demand, I'm tempted to go in on it. But a part of me wonders how they can effectively promise it before they're released... unless they have a count already and other places don't. I'm actually quite happy with MM and I'd like to stick with them so I'm waiting until they have a preorder option. But the worriesome consumer in me is thinking preorder ASAP! before they're all gone!

Also, aren't we all just assuming a Rebel Aces pack is coming out? I keep seeing people refer to them as inevitable but, unless I missed something, shouldn't that still be filed away under 'hoped for' and not 'when?'

It's a pretty good bet that a Rebel Aces is coming out. It would be the pinnacle of foolishness to alienate all the (only) Rebel Players, not to mention bring a lot of balance issues into the game, just because the imps have more upgrades and options. Not to mention if the Rebel players want "Opportunist" or "Hull Upgrade", how will they get it without cashing out on some ships that they'll never use? FFG is more than happy to release new ships for both sides, and not leave it one-sided.

rebel ace pack has already been announced in my opinion. the rebel transport comes with new pilots and upgrades than can be used in non epic gameplay.

and for fantasy flight games to add upgrade cards only available in one fraction and not the other is exactly what they will do. they want to sell more. and lucky for them they have me that will buy all. ie i do not see them releasing stealth device in a rebel pack

I have learned from buying the wave 3 ships that I should not preorder and wait until amazon gets them and since I have Prime... free 2 day shipping.
