PbP EOTE Game Recruiting Detailed Writers

By Shakespearian_Soldier, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey folks,

I'm in the process of hunting for good, detailed writers for my EOTE play-by-post game; writers who enjoy the system, but who also actively look to RP with their fellow player whenever the opportunity arises.

My game, as it stands now, had six players, but that number may be dropping to five in the next few days (or, perhaps, even lower, as some of my players are struggling to meet the posting requirement of one post per five days).

The character types currently in use are: Smuggler (Scoundrel)*, Hired Gun (Marauder), Hired Gun (Mercenary Soldier), Colonist (Politico), Colonist (Doctor / Force Sensitive Exile), and Technician (Outlaw Tech).

*The character that may be leaving us shortly.

Though I will not be accepting any more Force-Sensitive characters (I had one slot available, and it's been taken), I'm happy to consider most concepts.

An example of the kind of post I'm after from people in this game:

Against the backdrop of space, the Smuggler's Moon glistened like black tanzanite.

The YT-1300 freighter sailed towards it bravely, as though ignorant of its reputation; but it was not the only freighter to do so: ever opulent with activity, Nar Shaddaa was awash with ships arriving and departing. Crafts of all sizes wove their way through the darkness surrounding the bloated orb, puncturing its atmosphere with a thundering chorus of sonic booms.
Passing beyond the planet's barrier, the freighter fell into the clutches of gravity and began to rock vibrantly, but dedicated hands kept the ship's descent steady. As unpractised as he was at the handling of non-planetary vessel, Ardan Cormus nevertheless steered the freighter onward. He glanced toward the horizon, noted the speed of the traffic lanes' ebb and flow, and then pressed the craft towards an available docking bay. The entrance opened like a hungry maw, swallowing the ship whole and sealing it within a web of glaring, artificial lighting.
From the cockpit, the small bay could be surveyed without difficulty: a stunted square, it was otherwise occupied only by a few crates, fuel lines, and self-busying maintenance droids; a human male of diminutive stature and brown, oiled hair stood to one side of the bay. Both he and his datapad approached the starship swiftly as it landed, his jaw set and his eyes unblinking; when the boarding ramp lowered and settled, his dark eyes sought out the first crew member to disembark. Barely two steps onto the bay floor, Thorin Droma received the full brunt of the bay supervisor's rent demands and list of rules. He engaged the dwarf as best as he could and, with his most winning smile, bought his companions room to breathe.
Leena was the last to disembark, her hesitancy evident in her slow pace and in the nervous way in which she surveyed her surroundings. And she might be excused for her caution: one who escaped - and stole from - a criminal lord like Vago the Hutt either developed a keen sense of paranoia, or they were killed, captured, or they vanished entirely.
Why was she back here? Whilst it was unlikely that her former owner would be able to track her down during the short time they intended on staying planetside, it was still an inevitable risk that she had to take into consideration; but with the crew's profitable dry-spell expanding, seemingly without end, the venture onto the Smuggler's Moon seemed unavoidable.
Eraan Churek arrived at the base of the ramp in concert with the young doctor, Hale Zephyrus. The two looked up at Leena, watching and waiting patiently for her descend. With a subtle, deep intake of breath, the Twi'lek did so, and glanced around her at the assembled crew. Thorbin joined them, smiling slightly as the dwarf retired from the area, satisfied with his payment despite receiving only half of what he initially demanded; Lofwyroor, towering and vast, was silent in his movements as he carefully checked the bay one last time. Satisfied that they were indeed alone, the Wookiee nodded his approval.
Time to begin, the Twi'lek thought and, with a last glance back at the safety of the freighter, started towards the bay entrance, and the world of lies, danger and twisted loyalties that lay beyond it.

Anyone who's interested should either send me a PM, or post their thoughts herein.

Hey there,

First time poster, long time lurker. I play in one and GM one EotE game over on Myth-Weavers. Previously, I have played in and run a number of SAGA games. Some of the games I play in are rather slow right now, so I may be interested in adding another.

What site do you use for play? If you want to see my posts in previous games, please let me know via PM!

I'm game for it, I enjoy writing as much as I enjoy playing. I think 1 post every 5 days is a very slow rate and I can definitely commit to more.

I have a Smuggler (Pilot) concept that I've considered using for a while. Let me know if you'd like to hear more.

I use a site called roleplayinggames.net - been playing on there for years. Link to the board is as follows: http://roleplayinggames.net/cgi-bin/mainboard.cgi?&board=109

Feel free to PM me your concepts, and some example posts for your desired characters? Alternatively, post them here.

Respect for those who write like that! I am in a pbp game, but my posts tend to be rather terse, dialog, and brief descriptions of my actions. They certainly do not read with any flourish (think a script for a play). A few others write like the above, and I am always impressed by it.

You seem to have disabled PMs. Please re-enable it and I can send you my concept.

I can't see any option on my Control Panel for allowing/disallowing PMs. If necessary, just throw up your concept here.

I now definitely have an opening in the game (the Smuggler/Scoundrel has failed to meet the posting deadline three times, and thus has been booted from the group). Another player, the Hired Gun/Marauder has admitted to me that he might have to step down, too.

I've done PbP in other systems, but I always got irritated at how games NEVER got anywhere close to completion due to flakes. Good luck on yours, though. Btw, how are dice rolls handled in your game?

There's an on-site dice roller tailored to the system that I use. The results are sent directly to my email.

Oh, that's cool!

I've been playing in a diceless, all-prose Star Wars game for the past (almost) six years, and it's just now coming to its conclusion. Here's my first post in it, from 2007 (my writing has sharpened up since then, I should say). You could check out everything as it is now at our group on penandpapergames.com, if you're interested.

The posting requirement would be no problem for me - but I should say, I'm a EotE newb, with no local play group, so I'm pretty green. Still, with a max of five days between posts, I'm sure I'd have time to look things up! :D

I J, I like the look of your posts. If you're keen, feel free to send me an email (my addy can be found via the 'Email GM' tab on the following link: http://roleplayinggames.net/cgi-bin/mainboard.cgi?&board=109).

The Twi'lek scoundrel's slot is being filled by another player, so you'll be taking up the Wookiee's player slot when his player drops (which he's told me he might have to, given RL commitments).

Okay, I'll get on over there and browse around. Question: is it important to you that I use the same career and specialization as the Wookiee's player?

No. But I recommend checking the Game Notes page so that you can gauge what skills/talents/specialisations are taken, and what are needed.

Shakespearian Soldier, first of all, sorry for my delay in replying (I've moved, and was without internet for quite a while).

I've checked out your forum thoroughly, and unfortunately, it's really reminded me that I'm just burned out on PbP gaming. So, I respectfully surrender my spot(?) to any other interested parties!

Tentative dibs, I have a Bounty Hunter concept I'd like to try out. :)

Shame to hear about it Thompson.

Cheapy, I've sent you an email in response.

any slots available in this game still?

I presently have seven players. Whilst this means I'm HIGHLY unlikely to take on anyone else at the moment, I encourage all interested applicants to kick me over a concept, stat sheet, and background; this is because I will either a) keep it to one side for future reference, should a spot ever open up, or b) invite you to join now anyways, if the concept blows me away and really fits with the planned scenario.

I'm willing to join a PbP if an opening is there. They are my preferred method do to narrative. You've posted on my call for a persistent one as well it appears :)

You're welcome to apply, Moses. :) See my above post. ;)

I think I'll send you a concept, SS. Something for you to set aside... PM, or e-mail?

You're certainly welcome to. I'd rather it through email, since I can't seem to work the PM on this site. My address can be found on my game board, via the 'Email GM' button.

Again, the board link follows: http://roleplayinggames.net/cgi-bin/mainboard.cgi?&board=109

Those who are keen to join in the future are advised - but not required - to follow the board posts, to keep up to date on the progression of the story. The easiest way to do this is to Subscribe, but that - again - is not mandatory.
