Weapons Engineer + Fire Control Systems - Viable?

By InvestFDC, in X-Wing

Suppose I have Colonel Jendon with Weapons Engineer and Fire Control Systems (with the Lambda title card, naturally). When I attack do I get two target locks? I'm fleshing out a Lambda + 2 Tie Bombers squad, among other ideas.

Edit: Yeah, found some other posts. This should go well :- )

I'm not sure if you can get two target locks, because they would both have to be on the defender of your previous attack.

Recently i ran a list with both Jendon ( with the lambda title and weapons engineer) and a group of tie bombers, and found that i wasn't able to pass of the target locks fast enough for them to be usefull by the bombers. It's a good combo, but it also handcuffs your bombers to range 1 of the shuttle if you want to take advantage of Jendon's ability.

Unfortunately you can only give away one of the target locks per turn with Col Jendon. This causes a choke point in your devious master plan. The shuttle's maneuvering is bad enough that its hard to keep targets in your firing arc. For this reason , even though 3 attack dice is a great stat, the shuttle will get less bang out of using target locks (from weps engi and fire control) which he can't toss to a teammate.

You certainly CAN use the FCS + Weapons Engineer to get two target locks, every time you attack. One must be on the defender of the attack, the other can be on any ship in range (or, if further coupled with ST-321, on any ship anywhere on the board).

As the others have stated, though, Jendon can only pass one per turn. Still, having a TL with 3 attack dice (or 4 if you've got an HLC mounted) is certainly not a bad thing.

The one pass per turn doesn't bother me all that much as there are only two other ships. I am hoping an engine upgrade and maybe some other mods will make the lock hand off easier.

Added;

So, Jendon with F-CS, Weap Eng, ST-321 and Ion Cannon. Add two Gammas with an assorted payload with an eye towards the composition of the foe, for this example lets say 3 proton torps and two assaults between the two. By the time the first shots are fired each Gamma should have a TL, maybe focused on the same ship, and have a ready Focus action.

I know the issue here is the not the wash and rinse but the repeat. Maybe a combo with Boba or Krassis would work well...

See I DON'T think this is legal. The fire control system requires you to lock onto the same ship. The weapons engineer lets you lock on to the second. these cards seem to contradict each other. I'd like to hear FFG make a ruling with a new FAQ. I was just the TO for an event and didn't allow wave three ships because of things like this that I could see go either way.

I don't see what's controversial about this one at all. Here are the cards in question:

Fire Control System:
After you perform an attack, you may acquire a target lock on the defender.

Weapons Engineer
You may maintain 2 target locks (only 1 per enemy ship). When you acquire a target lock, you may lock onto 2 enemy ships.

The phrasing is identical: "you may acquire a target lock" ... "When you acquire a target lock."

What's contradictory about any of that?

aquire = aquire... kestrel has a legitimate point.

No controversy to me either. I immediately thought of this combo when I read the rules.

Viable yes, on a lambda no
