I got my hands on the HoTe expansion and was wondering. If I choose Kasrkin regiment what is the point of being a storm trooper sense the regiment basically makes you one, do you become a veteran storm trooper can someone explain the benefits of choosing the storm trooper spec with this regiment?
Kasrkin Strorm troopers?
there isn't too mush of one unless you are attached to the stats that the stormtrooper class gives you, I don't have it on me but I believe the only real similarities between kasrkins and stormtroopers are their equipment.
Not sure on the Kasrkin Regiment, so I'm half-blind here. I'm guessing, however, that the Regimental standard issue gear pretty much looks identical to the Stormtrooper Advanced Speciality standard issue gear.
However, the Stormtrooper Advanced Speciality gives the player certain benefits other than just kit; stat increases, aptitudes and access to the two unique talents - one that allows you to take hits on behalf of someone elses comrade, and the one that allows you to pass on a skill or talent to the squad.
Both of those remain valuable and Stormtrooper presumably remains the only way to access them.
Narratively, you'd essentially be a 'chosen man', a veteran rather than a specialist - equivalent to taking the Weapons Specialist Regimental Speciality then picking an M.36 Lasgun and Lasgun Barrage rather than a special weapon.
Basically, the Cadians are SUPPOSED to be the best IG in the universe; where other worlds train Guardsmen to fight Orks, or other crap, Cadians train to fight Chaos, and have to fight the stuff most other Guardsmen hope to never see. For that, the Cadians got the Kasrkin, a regiment that represents those good enough to fight a never-ending battle against an immortal foe, who seek to use their world as an easy way into the heart of the Imperium. No where else is the need so great.
Okay, that ends the fluff as I see it. They were cool, but other armies would have "similar" guys, so Storm Troopers of the Schola Progenium came along. Also, I like to think that, on some levels, the Kasrkin are a nice excuse to get around the lack of Advanced stuff for Specialties. Kasrkin are like Storm Troopers, but still fit in better as part of a team with their fellows, and everyone gets good gear, but that Kasrkin trooper can still be a regular IG, and get any of the book's Advanced options. If your GM dislikes the Specialists, it is also a close fit for you, if you liked Storm Troopers.
As for playing Kasrkin Storm Troopers, I'd argue you can't, because they are the Cadian Storm Troopers. It's a nice option for expanding options, and less one for doubling up, as it were. All IMO, of course.
Other than that the only benefits to being a Storm Trooper are 'prestige' and a +5 Toughness.
