What's your favorite artwork of a Middle-earth character?

By Karlson, in The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

After the connection between Denethor and Trained for War, I kept looking for Beravor on the backs of the Mûmakil.

While Dainche and Villeneuve is probably the most talented couple in the business, the honor of the best art in the game goes to Frodo:

The art looks like the great one made a century - a century and a half ago.

Oh, and I didn't like Magali's art in Flame of Udun. There, I said it.

Agree! One of my favorite pieces of art in the game.

I agree, Magali's artwork is amazing but i think her version of Durins Bane was just too friendly. The other one (The Nameless Fear) in the Khazad Dum deluxe expansion was scary as hell and i thought it was more fitting :)

I agree. When I first laid eyes upon it (a hasty glance), I thought that the massive arm was, in fact, his wings and the red spots on his chest shades of his palm extending towards his watcher. It was perfect. Later on, when I looked at it more carefully, I was a little disappointed, because the initial impression was much more menacing. Still, it's an excellent piece of art.

My favorite Balrog art is in the Whip Lash, by the same artist:

A million times better than the Magali's.

i always enjoy seeing artists portray balrogs as alternate to the usual 'flame demon'. it shows that tolkien was never clear on his description

Timo Karhula took the Shadow part under serious consideration, however. See how he pops up through the shadows? His manifestation isn't even complete yet. His wings and feet are yet to fully materialize.

The Spirit version of Glorfindel, definitely. He looks exactly as he should. Besides, at least in some versions of what Tolkien wrote, the guy defeated a balrog at Gondolin and came back to life. How badass is that?

I really like this art, and agree with your points, but I wish it (clearly) looked like he had two arms (somethings always bugged me about it, and I think that's it).

I think I just figured it out (what bugs me about the art, other than the one arm thing). I may have mentioned this elsewhere before, but I think he kind of looks like David Bowie (not annoying in itself, I'm a fan, but unexpected).

I'll never be able to look at Glorfindel the same way again. Pretty funny though.
